There was a little store across Sibley from the old Youth Center, which was the perfect place to visit on the walk back to the auditorium after Sunday School. Soda, candy, Sen Sen - all the necessities.
The Dairy Queen in Dyer - our family and the Hasse kids rode to school together, and we'd all throw our change into the ashtray until we collected enough to afford a Dilly Bar for each of us, then we'd stop on the way home. Of course, we had to pay with a handful of pennies, nickels and dimes. ...
This was sure fun to read through!
My friends & I would walk to the Pizza Hut in Schereville after school sometimes (and may or may not have played Wheel in the Sky on the jukebox).
Many times, my family and the Barrs would get together to make things for the 2 & 3 year old Sunday School classes - things like homemade cookbooks, construction-paper Easter baskets for the toddlers, or decorations for the departments. I don't remember a time when they weren't a part of my...
Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton & Condi Rice all made the same choice, long before Mrs. Obama. Good for her, but I'm not sure why the media suddenly sees this as bold & brave.
Dan, I agree with so much of what you've said on this subject, but I have one question: Do you believe God intended there to be no options for gay Christians other than life-long celibacy?
I think so, too, though I think there were always other factors involved, as well. The whole atmosphere of the church and high school changed in the mid 70's, IMO. I've always been glad I was there when I was, and left when I did.
If you're talking about the original auditorium, it's possible the musty smell came from the water damage when the fire was put out. They didn't replace the green carpet, just dried it out.
The only smell I really remember is when we had church at the Civic Center & the circus was in town. ;D
There was a special Christmas service a long, LONG time ago, in the old auditorium. Lindsey Terry (choir director at the time) sang a solo of a new Christmas song most of us had never heard before - "Do You Hear What I Hear?" He got to the chorus, and *surprise!* the echoing "what I hear, what...
Some of those from this era at FBC probably also knew Mrs. Mary Douglas (wife of Marlin) who passed away this week, as well. The Barr & Douglas families were like extensions of my own throughout my childhood; it's so sad to lose them.
I didn't attend HAC but got to know Daneen one summer when we both worked as counselors at the Bill Rice Ranch. (Along with another girl named Janell, but I don't remember her last name). She was so sweet and so much fun! That was the summer of '82, I think, or possibly '83.

I haven't watched it yet (had my 4 yr old grandson over on Friday) but DVR'd it for later.
Aw, man...and I tried so hard! I will stand up in chapel and beg for forgiveness (that's the Trinity Baptist College way) but I have no idea where the South Hallway is. :)
P.S. Fishinnut - I'm totally jealous that you got to see the BeeGees in concert!
