Places that I remember in the HAC/FBCH area

The Tuxedo shop on Indy Blvd is Dunhill.

They asked me to model tuxes for a bridal show in Lynnwood one year.
I never checked the date until the week before, and to my horror, it was on a Wed. eve.
I did it, cuz I promised them to, but I felt so backslidden, that I decided to not ever work through Wed church again.

When I got married, my wife found the pix, and cut out all of the Brides maids models that I escorted, so I was in the picture by myself, lol.

One thing that sickened me, was the conduct of the Brides-to-be's Mothers.
Here they were ,preparing their daughter for the same life that they lived and that was resposible for her stable home. 
Yet, they are shamelessly catcalling, whistling at, and hitting on the Tux models.
Like, "here is what you have to look forward to, Honey: marry some guy and ogle the rest".
What a pitiful representation of America's homes.
And, I venture that most were Christian Reformed.

That whole night was a wake-up call.

They must have been excited about the cut of the cloth - ain't no way it was the face stickin' out of the tux!  8)

Did you know the redhead kid down the street, Danny Cain, who visited his  Dad every summer?

Pullman District.

Witnessed a murder, learned street ball and got in my first car wreck.  Witnessed to someone for the first time and saw my first convert.  All in the Pullman District.

Sammy's restaurant in Dyer right next to the doghouse. Lived across the street for 4 years.

I applied for a job at Mine Safety Appliance MSA off Rt. 30 in Merrillville.

Did somebody mention the 'Big Top' grocery store on Ridge Ave. in Gary?

The Rally's on Calumet Ave right near the church. Back in the day you could get an entire meal for $2.50. And I did. About a thousand times. My Bible club was Hammond and I think I lived at that Rally's... Still get a hankering for those fries. 

So, that's where you got your six pack abs and your rock solid pecs?

Across the street from us there was a guy named, Tony.

How about the Army Surplus Store in downtown Hammond.  I walked there from church a couple of times.  I actually bought a pair of boots there.

I bought a winter coat there that I used for bus calling. It looked good and best of all it was warm.

Omni Fitness is still there as well as Jaks. Jaks is suppo9sed to be a family fun place, but it is really violence and crime ready to happen at any moment. Stay away after dark!

My parents traded with his dad, he cut our hair and we brought Freddie to school with us.

You know Freddie's Dad was tragically murdered, right?

He was loyal to the church, he was the deacon who brought the offering from Spanish services over to the safe in Miller Hall.
The Spanish pastor had begun to skim the offerings, eventually taking about 250,000 and building a building in Lynnwood, IL.
Freddie's Dad was "robbed" as he took the offering over.
They shot and killed him.

Knowing Mr. E, he probably told them to go jump, and then fought.

I put my ear to the ground, and word on the street was it was an inside job.
When i told Freddie, he said "we know who did it".  I never heard the results, except that the guy who pulled the trigger was caught, and that he was a member.

That still infuriates me, now that i think about it!!!

I had never heard any of that.  Wow.  When did it occur?

I heard that he was walking in-between buildings and some kid or man ran up behind him and hit him behind the head with a 2 x 4.

My friends & I would walk to the Pizza Hut in Schereville after school sometimes (and may or may not have played Wheel in the Sky on the jukebox).
