Another IFB preacher shows his fangs with the sheep

Better watch it or you'll kill all his gnats.

Another IFB preacher shows his fangs with the sheep

In complete agreement. I believe the biblical terminology is straining at gnats while swallowing camels.

Another IFB preacher shows his fangs with the sheep

Lest there be any confusion, I believe that men who commit a crime ought to suffer the consequences of their action. I believe men who commit immoral acts ought to suffer the consequences of their actions. If that means they spend the rest of their lives in prison, so be it. What I cannot do is...

Whats wrong with our christian schools & how can we fix them.

More emphasis on turning out well-educated graduates who can compete academically with the best around and can approach subjects of higher learning from a Christian worldview. Less emphasis on turning out graduates who conform externally to a narrow set of appearance and behavioral standards.

    Which book influenced you?

I can second the Randy Alcorn selection. I read through that with a group of friends and it really took us back to the realization that this life is a small piece of eternity and to never lose sight of that.

Another IFB preacher shows his fangs with the sheep

I think the key word here is "unrepentant." Scripture gives us very clear guidelines for dealing with an unrepentant brother caught in sin. The bigger problem today (as I see it) is a lack of clear understanding what repentance really looks like. It's not just being sorry for a little while...

Another IFB preacher shows his fangs with the sheep

I offer no condemnation to anyone caught in sin. I've been shown too much grace to not show it to others. I have to leave the millstones and drownings to God. That being said, it's not condemnation to say that a pastor who abuses his position has forfeited his right to that position (at least...

    Music in Ministry

Why is it OK to use the OT to define music, but not worship? (and thanks for the kind words, Tom) To make clear, I'm not saying that there isn't acceptable/not acceptable music for a church service. I disagree with the criteria you are using to define what that is. But it appears we may not...

Damsel, Arise: A Westboro Scion Leaves Her Church

Good for her. Maybe now she can learn what it really means to be a follower of Christ.

    Music in Ministry

I don't disagree with most of what you've said here. And I applaud your work in establishing a diverse church that reflects the society around you. However, if you define acceptable music by your cultural standards, you are wrong. There is acceptable music from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and...

    Music in Ministry

Sadly, that is one of the big reasons that we don't have much diversity in our churches (all evangelical churches, not just IFB). It's too bad, because worshiping with people from completely different backgrounds, ethnicities, socio-economic groups, and countries is a blessing that every...

    Music in Ministry

The problem with defining acceptable music by style, beat, genre, etc. is that you assume everyone in the congregation is from a homogeneous background. I attend a church with multiple ethnicities (40% black, 40% caucasian, 20% other) and people from all over the globe. As our music director...

Do you have any good wholesome Christian movie recommendations?

While not for children, Diary of a Mad Black Woman was one of the most overtly Christian mainstream movies of the last few years. Like real life, it has its messy moments, but also shows the power of Christ (and does so very overtly) to change a person's heart.

Do you have any good wholesome Christian movie recommendations?

We watched a movie not long ago on Netflix called Faith Like Potatoes. Decent Christian movie about a farmer in South Africa who is changed by the gospel. As an aside, the first time I saw Dead Poet's Society a friend pointed out the gospel story throughout the movie. It was an interesting...

What a strange and mixed up world we live in.

Was this rule in effect when you bought the property? If not, I don't believe they can retroactively make you abide by it since it wasn't what you agreed to. However, I'm not a lawyer, so I could wrong.

    Zimmerman case

I didn't try to establish some moral equivalence between Opie and Trayvon. That was Cave Dweller. I was just pointing out that, on paper, some of Opie's behavior wasn't very angelic.
