    What is the "Grace life?"

Yes, the IFB law, or the moralistic American code...whatever you want to call it. Anything that emphasizes self,(as in self effort, self striving, self discipline) as a means of righteousness to make themselves acceptable to God.

    What is the "Grace life?"

This is a lesson I taught a few weeks ago. Romans 1-3 teaches us the complete, timeless and universal unrighteousness of man, for which the wrath of God is upon him. Chp.1 The unrighteousness of the gentile world. This is not a snapshot of one particular portion of society or one particular...

    What is the "Grace life?"

Romans 5:2 "By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." It is a life lived by faith, as opposed to law, that opens up the Grace of Christ.

    Did it really harm us?

I am not going to try and prove to you the effect his remarks made on me, but I will say you are comparing apples and oranges. His statement directly informed my view of God, grace and the Christian life and it was egregiously wrong.

    Did it really harm us?

"While I definitely see your issue on that day" That philosophy permeated the place...every day...for decades.

    Did it really harm us?

Seems a bit extreme? You must not understand how a respected teacher informs the worldview of his students. You must not understand how foundational grace is to the Christian life and the crippling effects of self sufficiency. I replayed that conversation over and over in my head, I still...

Greg Boyd and The Myth of a Christian Nation

I'm of the opinion that the Church should speak to political matters, in declaring what the Scripture has already declared.  But I detest the manner in which Christians have latched onto The Republican Party/Fox News/Tea Party/etc. as the Christian Ideal. I'm right there with you.

Greg Boyd and The Myth of a Christian Nation

Right. I said as much. To me this reveals much of what is wrong with the church at large today. His unorthodox open theism is no problem, but imply that the church and Fox News are not on the same page and you lose 20% of your church. The church has become more political and barely doctrinal...

    Did it really harm us?

Absolutely, it could have and did harm some. I fell in love with a man and the atmosphere he created. That preaching tape was anything but sound biblical exposition. By God's grace that led me to a love for true preaching and biblical studies, but for many it didn't, and they are gone. I also...

What chapel sermons changed you forever

"What a Day" by Jack Schaap. Not because it was some great homiletic or theological masterpiece, but because as a young teen it instilled in me a love for preaching. (at least what I considered it then) I would not put together or preach a similar sermon now, but a fourteen year old boy could...

Greg Boyd and The Myth of a Christian Nation

I may be late to the party but I just picked up this book to read it. I find it interesting that a conservative evangelical can have unorthodox beliefs regarding the nature of God and be o.k., but imply that Fox News is not the gospel, and you lose 20% of your church. If you have read it, what...

    Current status?

For all of their praise regarding the great things God is doing, they sure are ashamed of their new building. I have seen many new pictures, pictures of buses, cars, trees, land, yet not one picture of their new church building. What are they ashamed of?

    Current status?

It is just another example of their arrogant recklessness. To put all of that money and effort into property you very may well lose, simply foolish.

    Current status?

It seems odd that they are able to assume their name and take over the property (especially with all the renovation) with a lawsuit pending. But what do I know, I'm not a lawyer.

Any news on the lawsuit with Immanuel? It seems like nothing became of it...

    Bullying.

I was especially sad at the funeral yesterday and consumed with the thought, that though God will use this for His glory somehow, it seems now to be a reproach. To the hundreds of the community that were present, it seems that the church and God's grace failed this kid. Which led me to this...

    Bullying.

I think the deterioration of the home and absence of prominent male role models have something to do with it as well. It would be especially tough on a young boy to be bullied at school and then to not receive the acceptance and approval of a Dad/male figure at home. A young man can take a lot...
