aleshanee said:hurricane iselle is supposed to hit the big island directly tomorrow morning... then be over oahu by thursday night and friday morning..... then right behind it hurricane julio could begin passing just to the north of us starting sunday morning.. provided it doesn;t change course again and come directly at us like iselle....... in all the time i have lived here i have seen plenty of heavy monsoons and a couple of mild tropical storms......but never an actual hurricane..... and now we are going to see 2 within a couple of days of each other.......... we have a good stock of emergency supplies and no matter how bad it gets will just stay in our own apartment....... but i worry about the people on the street..... especially the homeless families with children...... they will have shelters open for them but who knows how safe those will really be or if they will even be supplied with anything..... :-\..... they told everybody planning to go to a shelter to take all their emergency supplies including food and water with them........ and then my dad.. of course... will be out there right in the middle of it all..... responding to emergency calls...... but i have an emergency scanner so at least i can listen in to what is going on......
on the bright side the surf was awesome today....... but very gnarly.... sometimes unpredictable... .... driven by the storm still hundreds of miles away......i caught some awesome rides but also got drilled and pounded a couple of times...... nursing some bruises and some reef rash tonight....... ...no surfing tomorrow though...... it;s like a washing machine out there already........ and it;s supposed to get worse.......
this picture is from a few days ago... they are much closer than that now....

we do... this apartment was originally built as a safe house and everything locks down tight... even the jalousies facing the outside of the building are double thick hurricane glass.... and the jalousies in the guest rooms that share a wall with the outer hallway are in a long but narrow horizontal window near the ceiling and made of ballistic glass... that;s the direction the wind is coming from now and where the cool trade breezes usually blow in at night..... but right now it;s a very strong and hot wind blowing...... so my room mates have all those locked tight and we have the air conditioner on full blast...
this was about the safest place i could have been during this storm.... and where i;ll be if hurricane julio comes this way sunday......... but my dad said he is picking me up in about an hour and i;m spending the rest of his shift with him at the station....... (they probably all want me to cook lunch for them too...)......but it will be fun coz they are going to be busy most of that time running calls and i;m going to be running up the stairs sliding down the fire poles while they are gone.......
.........
