A Bible for the plow boys...who evidently aren't Ruckmanites.

Josh Teis isn't backing down.
Friends and detractors alike have asked me this same question over the last few weeks. Why enter the decades-old debate regarding KJV-Onlyism? Why go public with my views rather than keeping them to myself and my church?

I take his opinion on this as relative as that series he taught that, according to him, God wants all believers to be rich.

Any man who stands in front of adults and argues the virtues of comic book characters is never to be taken seriously.

Next, he may resort to chalk drawings... ;)

LOL!  He should be so talented.

Why is Josh Teis doing this?  Maybe because so much of the energies and resources of the IFB movement are being focused on promoting KJV-only, on attacking good men who are not KJV-only, and on stirring up trouble and running off people over this issue.  KJV-only missionaries are going to foreign fields that already have IFB churches that are not KJV-only, and stirring up discord and division among the brethren.  I think we are hurting ourselves by telling the younger generation and converts on the mission field, "The only version of the Bible you are allowed to read is the one version that you cannot understand."

Let those who prefer the KJV go ahead and provide their scholarly evidences, but they don't seem to want to do that.  Years ago I attended an all-day presentation on the defense of the KJV by Jewell Smith, and took careful notes on everything.  He didn't present any evidence at all for KJV-only, and spent most of his time rambling on with half-accurate stories from Foxe's Book of Martyrs and the translators of non-KJV English versions of the early 16th Century.  If we can't do any better than that, let's allow Josh Teis and everyone else their Christian liberty to use other versions if they wish.

Even Ruckman didn't care what version you used.  But no doubt there are a few knuckleheads out there that demand it.  So what?

What I find humorous are all those who get agitated at anyone who does demand KJVO.  Seems really weird they'd get upset over that, but they do.

This is what Tyndale actually said
"I defy [defie] the Pope and all his laws [lawes]. If God spare my life, ere many years I will cause a boy who drives the plough to know more of the scriptures than you do."
They aren't even sure he even said it. It's only attributed to him but no one really knows the source.

Today there are a lot  of people with the Scriptures who don't know the Scriptures and today the Pope actually may know more of the Scriptures than the average person.  I'm not a Ruckamanite by the way.  I'm aware that Tyndale's Bible has words translated differently from the KJV such as "agape" in 1 Corinthians 13 which uses the pure English word "love" not the anglicized Latin word "charity".

If I want to understand a word use a Strong's Concordance. I think you have to be cautious when using another translation as you don't want to trade accuracy for understandability. It's more important to have an accurate translation than one that is understandable and not accurate.  It should also be teaching correct doctrine (2 Timothy 3:16).    And I use the Thomas Nelson KJV any ways which gives alternate readings in the margins (I even have the King James Study Bible orignallly produced by Liberty University - it has maps in the text).

Given that by "ploughboy" Tyndale basically meant simpleton, I'd say the title of this thread is probably wrong.

I actually respect Teis for doing this. He's obviously seeing it as a major issue (whether or not you agree) and he is proposing a change.

It's also obvious at this point to note that Josh Teis is seeking to change the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement. Josh Teis is NOT LEAVING IFB. He's seeking to change it. He has made that his declaration and is determined to stick by it. Get ready for the ride boys and girls.

Nothing new has been allowed on the old paths since 1959.

You are, of course, absolutely right.  :)

With Rucky and Hyles mouldering in boxes, and Gail the Ripper basically forgotten, someone has to keep the bad KJV-only arguments alive and relevant. ;)
