A crucifix or a portrait of the pastor...

Can I get a third option?

Like, a mural of an eagle, for instance.

Anishinaabe

I'd prefer neither.
But for most of my life I was IFB...stoopid!

The only place I can look intelligent is posting opposite CU!

Which would you rather have hanging in your church?

My personal preference is neither but I have seen both. Over the course of my ministry, I, like IP, have been in about 250-260 IFB churches over the years due to the nature of the ministries in which I was involved.  Of those, I've seen about, maybe, 10 or 12 "Halls of Faith".

Now, I have been in three SBC churches here in the Tampa area just recently and seen portraits of their former pastors on the walls.

To spread it out and give granular clarity, I was in a UMC in Winter Haven, Florida this past week and they had a hallway full of portraits of their past ministers spanning over 50 years.

To put topping on the cake, I've also seen BOTH a crucifix AND a "Hall of Fame" in the Talbot House Ministries in Lakeland, Florida. (They are a catholic charity that helps the homeless for the uneducated among us  :) )

It must really stink to have to judge every IFB ministry's position based on your own flawed premise and limited experience. Something must have really harmed you in the past and you are allowing it to define you.

Your bitterness and anger really show through your fine vernier of false knowledge polished with hateful pride.

Perhaps some of the other posters on this forum are right and you should be viewed as an object for pity - not to be taken seriously.

I imagine you have a portrait on display somewhere in your church. Do you?

WOW!!

I visited one IFB church years ago and seen a portrait of their Pastor in the entry.

I pointed this out to my wife and said, this is why we would never be members here. This particular church is of the Hyles side of the IFB, of course.

Not talking about a hall of fame. Stop trying to twisting what I've wrote.

Great. Add them to the list.

You guys always love to play the bitter card. You're so predictable.

I"m certain there were Pharisees that claimed Paul was bitter in his dealings with the Jewish religion. I'll take that a compliment.

Its always the goal of you "IFB preachers" to downplay the seriousness of the charges against you...... Its not surprising at all.

It has been my experience that only pastors with a HAC influence have their portraits hanging alone in the church.

I have seen several other pastors who have their picture included on a wall with the church's former pastors. To me, that is totally different altogether.

All of our staff have a picture of them and their wife in our weekly bulletin. I see nothing at all wrong with that.

Lloyd Bentsen puts down Dan Quayle

Don't have either.  In the first church I Pastored, SBC, they had the practice because the Pastor just prior to me liked it....he had the pictures up in the back of the sanctuary..his being the biggest. When I became Pastor I had them moved to the fellowship hall. Now in the three churches I have Pastored in the last 28 years, that has not been a practice...and am I ever glad.
The only "personality" in the church needs to be Jesus & and I can't put a picture up of Him, because there are none!
