The difference between the IFBxers and Tullian Tchividjian is that  Tullian Tchividjian never claimed to be the "holy, separated" one that xer's claim to be. That's why there isn't the uproar about Tullian Tchividjian's adultery than what was made with the xer's and Duggars.
Like Sub said, you put yourself on a pedestal........

I believe there was plenty of uproar on all parts.  How loud the uproar is may very well be determined by your proximity to the roar.  In other words, if you don't run in those circles and are not influenced by those people, you really don't hear much about it.

Case in point, most Southern Baptists don't even know that Jack Hyles existed.  The ones who do, know that he had a large church that ran alot of buses, and that is all they know.  They haven't heard about all of the scuttlebut and don't even know who Jack Schaap is.

Agree on both accounts. Plus the "evangelical" world is so much bigger than the IFBx world the "uproar" is diffused. And the IFBx world is encouraged not to have "outside" pursuits so their whole world is often church and these things are magnified.

Tullian also never publicly spoke out against homosexuality.  Every one in recent years who has done this has been lambasted by gays and gay defenders whether they say they are separated or not. Josh Duggar was being criticized before the scandal for his conservative views on same sex marriage while he was working for the Family Research Council. Compare Josh to any other public figure who has a history of child molesting or any other sexual sin who isn't a conservative or Christian. They are brushed aside or judged less harshly. If Jared Fogle had made homophobic remarks the comments about him would be so much worse. He could probably say something racist and people wouldn't care as much. I'm only making comparisons here. I'm in no way defending Josh Duggar. I honestly wish this Duggar family was never famous or on TV - I feel the same way about the Bates who seem normal by comparison. It would probably have been better that the Duggars watch a little TV than to be on it. They might have learned a few things.

All fair points except that I believe Tchividjian has spoke against homosexuality from a biblical point of view (against it) but has avoided making his ministry one of focusing on "social issues" aka special sins. A very different focus than that of his predecessor James Kennedy, and much to the chagrin of some of the old-timers there.

Fair enough....but Tchividijian, and others in the hip and relevant movement, speak against homosexuality and even abortion 'reluctantly', because of their felt need to be more PC and culturally relevant.

What I don't get about this guy is, as if no one would recognized him.

He probably wouldn't have been caught or exposed if it wasn't for the hackers. Ashley Madison promises total secrecy even for public figures.  Even that porn star he had sex with didn't come out and tell her story until after the Ashley Madison site was hacked and it was a couple months before any public figure was found on the list.

Just stating a fact based on my experience.
Condescending and critical much. That was rhetorical!  ;)

No.
The church I attend isn't able to gather around a kitchen table, either. ;)

Thankfully I don't attend a church. I'm actually part of one. ;)

Which explains in part why there is continually room for all around a kitchen table.... ;)

Really?  I guarantee the church of which I am a part is bigger than your "church".

I am a part of the church. Problem is, there are so many of us and we live in so many places, we couldn't possibly all meet together at one time. At least not until Jesus returns. Until then I will just have to be content meeting with the folks that God has led me to gather with.

In fact, the focus on congregation size is troubling. Well, unless you think you build the Church or if you like your prosperity gospel.

The Scripture references the church universal...all the Redeemed.....I get it!
Scripture also references local assemblies.

Our congregation gathers, pool our resources and energy and in essence, we are the church.
We worship, serve, minister together.
We endeavor to use our energy and resources to reach out to the world with the Gospel and make disciples of those who respond to God's saving grace. As that happens, they join our efforts and our assembly expands, our resources expand and our outreach expands.
The number of disciples grows and our outreach grows causing the number of disciples to grow.....

Oh, and of course the church...local and catholic...grows.

Our ultimate goal is to bring glory to God.

You focus on size as much as the next poster... you just want to keep it within the number of chairs around your dining room table.
