I would vote to leave the church, but that is just me.

I would of never joined. Secret ballet is the only way I've ever heard of for a pastor's vote. I wonder how a "nay" would go over?  :)

Next week our Church will once again vote for the officers, teachers, and pastors for our Church. We do this every year.

I always feel uncomfortable voting 'yea' or 'nay' for the pastor. I feel like I am taking the will of God in my hands.

I can pray, observe his actions over the past year, and consider his doctrinal stands and adjustments ... and I can listen to the still small voice in my heart ....

.... what would you consider if placing such a vote for your pastor?

I'm not necessarily opposed to it - it is an odd practice to me.

Is this a secret ballot, or do you have to vote in front of the church?  Are there other people available for those positions, or is this more a vote of confidence?  How low does the vote need to get before they are replaced? (Let's not use the Pastor, but say, the sound man... supposed he got 51% - is he replaced?  What if no one else is qualified?

The Scripture doesn't talk about this practice, so I think it is a bit premature to say that it is unscriptural.  I'm not sure that it goes against Scripture.

Another question: What happens if, say there are 100 voters, and 60 abstain, and the rest of the vote is 30 Yeah and 10 Nay - is the person kept, or are the abstentions counted as "Nay"?

Many years ago, when I lived in another state, all judges in the state were voted on this way.  They were appointed by the governor, but the people could vote them out of office.  I thought it was interesting.

Good questions. For the pastor and youth pastor it is secret ballot. Since most other things voted on are "majority wins" .... I would assume that is how this works also. This is new for me - only been at the Church 3 years and so far the pastor has been here. Last year it was something like 24 Yeah, 18  Nay, and 4 abstain. Curious to see how the vote falls tonight ....

To me, it sounds like the church is trying to prevent MOG syndrome.  If the pastor is a homegrown fellow with a full time job and he is simply the one teaching the Bible this week, I get a regular vote.  If the pastor is to really pastor and lead the church in sanctification, his hands are tied.

The business meeting has been postponed.

A dear lady in our church collapsed in the aisle and was unresponsive. Quickly I was on the phone with 911 and my wife and one of the deacons took turns performing chest compressions until emergency workers arrived.

She is still at the hospital this morning. From what I have been told, we saved her life.

A hero in our midst!

Well done to you and your wife and the deacon!

If this is an annual vote, I'd assumer it's probably routine and no big deal in your congregation....unless someone is ticked at the Pastor! :)

True.

But last year his vote was close and we are curious what happens this year ... I pray hearts are in a better place and united in their vote.
