Are You a "Recovering Fundamentalist"?

So whats the answer?

I don't know anyone who thinks 123 repeat after me is the correct soul winning method. I do know a few that say there is no need to evangelize at all, those who are the elect will get saved no matter what. It's not our place.

What is the right balance, what is the right position between ignoring the great commission and the 123 team. What process is best to assure the person is truly ready. Do they take classes (catechism), or attend church for 6 weeks, do you look for tears or some other outward signal?  Howe do I know they are true ready & sincere about accepting Jesus into their heart?

I agree the Holy spirit must convict a person and they must sincerely accept Jesus as their savior. We all know saying a few words or even walking an isle is not what saves.

How can one "see another's heart", How can we know they are under conviction, how do you measure if they are sincere or just being polite? I have often witnessed to someone and just left them a track, because they did not seem to have a sincere interest in what I was showing them from the Bible. I did not want them to just repeat some prayer to be kind to me and then have some false idea about salvation. I have also spoke to people for just a few moments, who had been witnessed to before, who instantly displayed a sincere desire to accept Jesus of their savior.

If you were training a new convert or a teenager on how to lead other to Christ, what process would you teach them.
Lol @ "under conviction"

It's not about judging whether or not the person is under conviction, per say.

The point is the presentation of the gospel message. As I pointed out in earlier post. If a person does:

what I said, he taught, ask them to except some basic facts.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

Do you agree with this? Yes ok.

If Jesus would accept you the way you are right now would you be willing to ask Jesus into your heart and take you to heaven one day? Yes ok.

Presenting the message this way..........I can pretty much 9 out of 10 times get someone to pray.

But........if you take your time and allow the other person to control the conversation, this will allow you to discern a few things and answer specific questions.

Sword, does this make sense?
Bingo!

Let them ask every question they have, if it takes 2 years.

The fact that we have planted the good seed of the Word of God is evangelistic "success."  The rest is up to God.

I had never heard of Ray Comfort until I happened to hear him on the radio a few years ago and fell in love with him.  He actually made sense when it came to witnessing.  If you want to see how old time evangelists dealt with men's souls then simply go to YouTube or his website and see how he presents the gospel.

Regarding keeping tabs of "decisions for Christ,"  D. L. Moody stated:  "Is it well to number converts?  [David] got into trouble by trying to number Israel.  It is best to let the Lord keep the record.  It makes me creep all over to hear a man tell how many he has converted."

Tax Fraud Hovind is either very confused about what repentance is, or he's very dishonest. (Again.)

I Need To Get My Life Cleaned Up First
"Those who think that they can clean up their lives don't see their true plight.  They are standing guilty before a wrath-filled God.  They have been condemned by His Law (John 3:18; Romans 3:19).  If a man commits rape and murder and admits to the judge that he is guilty, will the judge let him go just because the man says he will clean up his life?  He is in debt to the law and must by punished.  We may be able to clean up our lives in the sight of man, but not in the sight of God.  The only way we can be cleansed is to repent and trust the Savior."  Ray Comfort

Years ago I worked with a man who bragged about being in the Ku Klux Klan.  He not only hated Black people but had one of the filthiest mouths I had ever heard and that includes when I was in the Marine Corps.  One day at lunch he sat down and told me how he was a Christian and actually drew on a napkin at the break room table a picture of Christ dying on the cross and told me the plan of salvation as clear as I had ever heard but he could see nothing wrong with how he lived or what he believed concerning the Klan.

Another example.  I worked with a man who claimed he was a Christian because he "believed in Jesus."  Once again this man had a very filthy mouth and got drunk every weekend.  He was kicked out of a bar one time because he got drunk and stripped down naked and that was his manner of life.  According to Steven Anderson that man is saved because he "believes" although his heart had never been changed.  This is what we are dealing with in modern Christianity.  That is what Ray Comfort is fighting against.

Biscuit:
I watched several videos of Ray Comfort. Would you say this would make a good training video for witnessing. What part of his very clear presentation of the Gospel would you say sets him apart from the average. Which part of his presentation should we take note of & emulate?

Ray Comfort uses the Law to show people that they are guilty before God.  He isn't concerned about how many converts he has but leaves the gospel results in God's hands.

"The law is like a moral mirror.  It shuts our mouths and opens our eyes. It condemns but does not convert.  It challenges but does not change.  It points the finger but can't give mercy.  And it drives us to Jesus, who has the answer we are looking for."  Greg Laurie

"This verse is sandwiched between statements of God's judgment and wrath.  If Paul was saying that we should speak only of God's goodness to sinners, he wasn't practicing what he preached."  Ray Comfort

"I never knew but one person in the whole course of my ministry who acknowledged that the first motion of religion in his own heart arose from a sense of the goodness of God, 'What shall I render to the Lord who has dealt so bountifully with me?'  But I think all besides who have come within my notice have rather been first awakened to fly from the wrath to come by the passion of fear." I know you agree with Anderson so I won't argue with you.  It isn't worth it.

No one, including you, has ever heard me quote a man discussing theology.

I agree with the Scriptures, and have quoted them, and you feel like we are arguing?

Kinda telling.

Sword, does this make sense?

I cannot add much to what Bruh has said; instead of trying to just walk through a presentation, try to see if the other person has any interest. Do they ask questions? Most of the lost in the Scriptures ask what they should do or how to be saved.  Paul asked a pointed question of Agrippa, but I think that is the exception.

I'm not trying to sell heaven, or add scalps to my belt. When we talk of the righteousness of God and the sin of man, does the Holy Spirit whisper to them "That is YOU!".
