Area crackpot renames Lake Ontario

Has anyone here noted that Trumps is a narcissistic arrogant proud immoral man? 😊

Most people I know, even ardent Trump supporters agree with your characterization.
Most would have prefered a moral man of character. The truth is we did not have many options. I have always said, I believe Jimmy Carter was the most moral president in my lifetime. He was honest and a man of character and I think he believed he was a good Christian inspite of many of his policies. That being said I think he was the worst president in my lifetime. On the other hand I believe Trump is dishonest, immoral and often does dumb things.. He is a horrable speaker and I think he normally puts himself before the interest of our nation. That being said I support many of his policies and think he has accomplished a great deal. Being moral and being effective are 2 different things. Where would we be if Kamala would have been elected with a solid majority in both houses. What about 8 years of Hillry with a solid majority in congress. What would the Supreme Court look like today?

Trump's war on Canada is not going over well with Americans - 14% support the renaming of Lake Ontario, 63% opposed. Radioactive levels of TDS out there.

Trump’s lake name change immediately blows up in his face

Even the most ardent supporters think its dumb. What does it accomplish. It will chnage back day one of a new presidency.

That's sad. Who do you want to hate?
Seems we’ve had this conversation before…because when it comes to Trump you can’t help yourself.

Yes if there has ever been open hatred in our public dialogue it’s aimed at Trump. Even his stopped clock isn’t right twice a day. Trump is easy to hate as he has no sense of self awareness. Therefore his arrogance and narcissism are front and center in almost everything he does.

I will be so glad when he’s off the forefront of our politics.
I’d still vote for him tomorrow if the alternative was Kamala…or almost any socialist communist Democrat.

Meanwhile, Canadian voters are reacting negatively to Trump's war on Canada, the only way they seem to know how, by voting for the most liberal candidates. Support for the Conservative Party in one Quebec riding dropped from 34% to 13%.

The article states that Quebecers are especially opposed to being absorbed into the United States because they believe that they will lose privileges for the French language. I'm not sure how taking over Canada would "Make America Great Again." Most of the congressman elected from Canada after the takeover will be either Demon-crats or else Liberals (Grits) who will caucus with the Demon-crats, thus insuring Demon-cratic control of America for the foreseeable future.

Ransom, correct me if I'm wrong, but my perception is that most Canadians would prefer to suffer economic loss rather than submit to political or economic control of their nation by the United States. So, why don't we just call the whole thing off. Can't we all just get along?

To be fair, Conservative support has never been all that high in Quebec, for historic reasons going all the way back to the North-West Rebellion and John A. Macdonald's execution of Louis Riel.

That depends on Trump. He's the aggressive one. Remember that a large part of our Canadian identity is not being the U.S. In the last national election, the Conservatives were quite likely to win. Then Trump announced his tariffs. That shifted the outcome of the election, because Pierre Polievre, the Conservative leader, wanted to work with Trump, whereas Mark Carney, the Liberal, was willing to stand up to him. Canadians voted for Carney, and even Polievre's riding voted him out. (It's ironic to me that Polievre was my church's MP before that election; now, it's Carney, because the riding borders changed after the previous election.)

I think you're right that most Canadians would rather risk economic loss than submit to U.S. control of our economic--and especially by Trump, whose shenanigans haven't made him any friends up here. I have no love for Joe Biden or Justin Trudeau, but they at least tried to get along. Donald Trump just makes it easy to be antagonistic.

His narcissistic personality gets in his way, but to spin that into 4D chess, his grandiose populism and behavior seems to have more people than ever interested in and talking about politics. 😉

When you search "Lake America" in Apple Maps, it curiously takes you to a place called "Lake Ontario." Apple is so August 2026!

So far, the name change to Lake America is going over like a lead balloon in America - I don't see what Trump gains by this childish stuff:

City in Republican stronghold by 'Lake America' decries Trump name change

And the Indians are on the warpath about it:

Opinion: Odd that Lake Ontario would be what finally turns the public against Trump

So that's why it says "I remember" on Quebec automotive license plates. These folks have long memories. I had no idea that Quebecers were still riled over the execution of Louis Riel - that was in 1885! As far as I'm concerned, Riel had it coming, for the execution of Thomas Scott. Riel said, "I have done three good things since I have commenced: I have spared Boulton's life at your insistance, I pardoned Gaddy, and now I shall shoot Scott."

My lib friends are now using Mapquest to avoid using a map that has "Lake America."

Apple has fully transitioned now

I'm an older woman who is finding it very difficult to find a job. I keep telling people in recent history, we've had two presidents older than me who have been in charge of the entire country.

Hey now. He's Gods chosen vessel to make America great again. 😏

Comes from the same general era, but the motto actually predates Riel by a few years. It's more a nationalist motto: "I remember my language, history, and traditions." The same author later added a second motto to the first, something along the lines of "Born under the fleur-de-lys, raised under the rose"--in other words, unashamedly French despite being governed by the English.

But Riel, as a Metis, was also a francophone, so the the Quebecois, he was an ally. When Macdonald had him hanged, he knew what the consequences would be: "Riel shall hang, though every dog in Quebec should bark." There have been French prime ministers from Quebec (e.g. Brian Mulroney), but in 1885 Quebec basically stopped voting Conservative.

A whole bunch of his cheerleaders cheering him on. (TDS goes both ways).

The thing is, though economists might not agree on the practice, trade protectionism (from whence heavy tariffs come) is an established economic policy intended to protect domestic industry. Agree or disagree with it, there's a method to the madness.

Arbitrary renaming a lake, on the other hand, is just jingoistic trolling. "Lake America" now exists for one purpose only: it tweaks the nose of Mark Carney. I imagine most people on either side of the border realize the renaming is of no value to the economy or national security. Certainly Apple, Mapquest, Google, etc. gain nothing by changing their maps.

I really wish Trump would knock off such silliness! I know he is only doing such in order to troll his detractors but it is getting childish and nonsensical! Plenty of pertinent issues that require someone having a much more "Presidential" demeanor!

Me personally I love him renaming things like the gulf and lake.
