White lives matter more to the *blue (in general) than to those lives of people of color.

Recovering, if you have Netflix, I encourage you to watch the documentary 13th. It only taps the issue but is a great start. The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander is rife with source references, showing how the police force began as slave patrol and began their "criminal investigating" for the purpose of free labor in the Reconstruction Period after slavery.

I highly recommend seeing both the documentary and reading the book.

*blue - representative of the entire criminal justice system, and may or may not reflect the officers who patrol the streets who are truly there to serve and protect all citizens. Having been employed as a citizen in a police department, I know firsthand of racist cops and non-racist cops. In reality, the entire system is set up to wedge between those in poverty and those of wealth. The system is rigged against the poor, even whites but involves primarily people of color.
