I have no ax to grind with Paul Chappell. If he decided to return to the old fashion fundamentalism, which we?ve been fighting for decades, I would embrace him and applaud him. I can think of nothing that would please me more than to be able to define Paul Chappell as an old-fashioned, rock-ribbed, independent, fundamental, Baptist preacher. Unfortunately I don?t see that as a possibility at this point

I wonder how much time Bob spent on the phone with Paul before writing this article?

Is Bob calling a brother pastor to be a "man-pleaser"...ie. a Bob Gray pleaser...or does he really care that Chappell please God?  I personally could care less what Bob Gray would think of me, more concerned what the Lord Jesus thinks.

I've witnessed the  mindset of IFBs who are so worried about what others in their camp would think about them if they step out of line on some petty issue, and as a Baptist who wholeheartedly embraces soul-competency and the "I" in IFB, it sickens me to see such cliquishness.  Worry about what you are doing in your corner and quit constantly nipping at other people's heels.

Old Bob is doing the same thing Tom and his Crusaders are doing, albeit they do it with a better spirit and more finesse.
Bob names Chappell, Tom names Josh Teis...and their complaints are the same...they have drifted from the rock ribbed, fundamentalist old paths music and methodology!

lol does Bob Gray know that particular Southern Baptist Church is trying to leave the SBC and become an IFB church? oh lordy this is hilarious. Chappell is trying to get them out of SBC just like M.Chappell did with FBC Long Beach (American Baptist) in the 70s.

this guy and Tom Brennan make me laugh.

And, once again, for those of you keeping score:

Hyles quote = 1
Bible quote = 0

What with the ref to that church?

That's where Chappell is speaking and JonStewart says that church wants to leave the SBC.

Try and keep up.

I did not see a mention of it apart from your's.

I know this is a church that is all about winning souls & they have people baptized weekly.

Is it a rock ribbed fundamentalist rule that one (of them) cannot speak in an SBC church?
If so, was John R Rice a RRF?

As much as I don't like Bob Gray, Sr, I support his right to warn others that Paul Chappell is going in a direction that is in opposition to what Bob Gray and others of his ilk preach and teach.

There should be no disagreement that Paul Chappell supports contemporary music, and Bob Gray and his group are opposed to this.

If you don't think music matters, then this whole thing seems silly, but to some, music is important.

In addition to the the music issue, it is my understanding that Paul Chappell sends, or used to send, leadership people to "successful" church seminars - but people that were contemporary church oriented.

I think Bob Gray is way too self-centered and a worshipper of Jack Hyles.

Rice had too high a standard to preach in an SBC church.

He would only preach in Nazarene churches.

Is that a 'yes' or a 'no'?
Have the standards for being a 'rock ribbed fundamentalist' changed?

Does anyone see a difference between what Bob Gray is saying and what Tom Brennan and his Crusaders are saying in their blog series?
Bob names Chappell, Tom names Teis.

The only difference I see is in the spirit/tone and the finesse of the writing.

No I don't see a difference. Both are gossiping about other good pastors and should be condemned from the pulpit. We don't need new keyboard warriors trashing our leading figures of the movement.
