Charlie Kirk shot.

It seems the guy's family outs him... now this... A trans roommate who is cooperating with authorities.... 🤯

Well, it pretty much deep-sixed the narrative that the killer was ultra-MAGA.

But I don't see any fundamental conflict between being trans and cooperating with the police. Suppose you just suddenly learned that your roommate or boyfriend or whatever was wanted for murder and now Public Enemy No. 1.

The fact that the trans rommie was cooperative with authorities is probably the least remarkable of the details but the whole thing coming together like this...

The alt-right or MAGA tie theory I heard early on, which is tanked by this latest emerging trans narrative, was that Kirk was targeted by a long-simmering feud with a Groyper.

Still, Mormonism is somewhat unremarkable in this case, IMO. I used to think of Mormons as a theologically bankrupt but socially conservative voting bloc but over the past twenty years I have seen that the fruit of their theological bankruptcy is that they aren't the conservative stalwarts they once seemed. They take on whatever position is advantageous for their ends.

Another issue which the linked article brings up which I think has some validity is how a young man in Mormonism can feel smothered by legalism. Bringing up doubts and struggles will be met with shame and a loss of standing. Standing is everything in Mormon society. If you don't believe me, go talk to a Mormon missionary.

I have more to posit but I'm tired, my shoulder is hurting and I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow.

I'm going to challenge you to go listen to his speeches he does not divide this country he gives everyone a stage to speak.
I didn't mean that he was divisive. I meant that the assassination caused more division.

I think the there’s a repressiveness in the Mormon culture that is similar to that of some of the old IFB churches in yesteryear (and a few today). However, in no way will I blame the LDS for this. In fact, according to reports, it was a Mormon youth pastor who is also a reserve U.S. marshal who worked with the kid’s father to orchestrate his arrest.

I had seen a few of CK’s videos in the past. I wasn’t a huge fan. Not saying it was because I disagreed with his viewpoints, but his videos all seemed the same to me: stupid woke 18-year-old college student vs conservative adult who knew how to debate the stupid kid and make him stammer and look stupid. All that being said, even though he wasn’t my cup of tea, I give him credit for appealing to young voters and making politics look cool.

Agreed 💯 percent

Sort of like "Ben Shapiro owns the libs." Yeah, we know he's brilliant. Love to see it in a extended debate rather than the nifty soundbite.

To Kirk's credit, he only had a high-school education, so by engaging college students, he was punching above his weight class. A bit cocky from time to time, which can be off-putting. But he always came prepared and seemed to have an endless store of facts and statistics in his head.

This whole thing is creating something in American culture that I don't think is going away. Some are saying it is going to cause a civil war. I don't see that. But I do see that there will be hugchanges in the way the government operates. And the divide between loberal and conservative has just grown by astronomical proportions.

Ray Comfort had already made plans to visit 13 colleges and universities in Southern California the day before Charlie Kirk was shot and he plans on going through with it but has decided to change his security. It sounds like a very good idea.

I had never heard of him at all until his name was mentioned.
