I have heard of Martin Lloyd Jones and Finney, but do not recognize Barnes. Anyone know if this is a good deal, if all of this is dreck or just the Finney volume?  ;)

Barnes is excellent, especially in the OT.
Check Amazon, you can find a set of 10 to 14 "Barnes Notes" for $80 to $100 dollars.

Tom, I like his OT stuff as well.
I have Matthew Henry and Oliver B. Greene and Rice commentaries.
I also like my Barnhouse & J. Vernon McGee sets even though they were Presbyterians.

Barnes is available in e-Sword keyed to the verses in the Bible you are reading.
Cost is $0.00
These are also at no charge:
Pulpit Commentary.
Gill.
Matthew Henry.
Clarke.
Expositor's Bible Commentary.
Biblical Illustrator.
Poor Man's Commentary.
All are no charge and keyed to the verse you are viewing in the Bible you are reading.
You can get it on your phone too.

I find it strange that Finney is acceptable in some IFB churches where they practice his "New Measures" for boosting results.
I would contend that it results in an inordinate number of unsaved as members.
This is most prevalent in the 'Old Paths" churches.

We can thank Graham for the perpetuation of the Finney doctrine.

I've read a lot of Barnhouse. I like him b/c he preaches his commentaries, like Lloyd-Jones. Oliver B.  Greene preaches them too much; not enough substance for my taste. I  haven't read much of Rice and McGee. Matthew Henry is always good, like vanilla icecream is always good.

In my personal experience, IFBs are moving away from the 'results mean God's blessing on the ministry mentality'....maybe because they no longer see 'results'...but maybe that's just me.  :)

Buy the books. Studying and reading off a stinkin' computer screen is for the birds. If you are patient, you could find them cheaper. I'll look around.
