The pastoral search committee has decided to withdraw their recommendation of Donald Trump as a candidate for the new Pastor following the remarks he made at a recent campaign rally with Nicki Minaj, so he will be disinvited to preach in next Sunday’s service. One deacon strongly protested by claiming that in the tradition of the Independent Fundamental Baptist movement, they needed a bold Pastor who isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and pointed out that Donald Trump swore in on a King James Bible in both terms. However, the majority overruled him and part of the congregation has left to form another Independent Baptist Church.

Trump being Trump….
Even in my weak attempt at parody, I am still thankful that God allowed Donald Trump to become President instead of Kamala Harris or any other radical left wing Democrat that is firmly aligned with Communism and everything opposed to Christianity. Only a Christian Nationalist would demand an orthodox, perfect Christian President in order to exercise his right to vote.

There has never been a “perfect Christian president” in the history of this country. But I can’t recall a president ever making vulgar, sexual comments about a woman like Trump just did in front of live TV.

If I were to quote Harry Truman, LBJ and a host of other Presidents, I would be banned from this forum.

So that makes it okay?
Did I say it is okay? I am disgusted with what President Trump said in that rally! I am also disgusted with Christians who demand a perfect Christian in order to vote for him. Donald Trump by all accounts is an unsaved cultural Christian who will stand before God some day and give an account. I still pray for him though just as I did for President Biden along with our other political leaders and judges that they would do the right thing in making moral decisions.

Why do you say that?
As a rule, his language colorful, pointed, and what can most charitably be described as "earthy." His "humor" was based chiefly on the contents of toilet bowls and he was addicted to "pie-in-the-face" practical jokes. His favorite spectator sport was watching bovine copulation and he gloried in summoning fastidious males to his bathroom, where conference and excretion could be intermingled. His consumption of beverage alcohol was for purposes other than sacramental and in quantities that did not accord St. Paul's "a little wine for thy stomach's sake." [Reedy, p.34-35]

I get the fact that LBJ was notoriously foul mouthed. In fact, here’s a list of presidents who have been caught or known for these behavior (Republicans and Democrats) https://www.buzzfeed.com/madisonmcgee/joe-biden-fox-news-cursing-presidents (warning: obvious language discretion).

I guess the difference is I don’t see it as being political theater. The other thing I’d point out is that mostly all of these presidents have been caught cursing, but Trump’s comments are not just cursing, but sexual in nature: (“grab ‘em by the p****) and talking about her a**). That’s a bit different than calling someone a donkey.

And how did they talk when they knew the cameras were rolling?

I rather doubt LBJ went on record with his opinion of Raquel Welch's rear.

Trump has been publicly called out as he should be. I am sick of his foul mouth like everyone else but I also don’t want to be living in a nation where grandmothers are sent to sent to prison for praying at abortion clinics, the FBI prosecuting parents speaking out at school board meetings, and the prospect of seeing what is now taking place in France and other European nations. I agree with Pat Boone though.

Well I guess your prayers aren’t being answered.

I appreciate your balanced perspectives.

At least he’s not hiding who he is. I can appreciate that.

I think the closet we’ve ever had was Jimmy Carter, and even though he subscribed to liberal theology, he made it a point to at least try to be honest and decent while being a professing believer.

He once said, "I've looked on a lot of women with lust. I've committed adultery in my heart many times,” and that was considered to be highly controversial at the time.

The point he was trying to make was that it’s the nature of sinful human beings, and that’s why forgiveness is needed.
