Just curious, are there any modern TV shows out there that your families can watch that are halfway clean and also don’t just totally suck? It seems like after the 80s (and a few from the 90s), every show is strongly compromised and worldly. I wish there was the modern equivalent of The Andy Griffith Show or Little House on the Prairie.

I'm sorry, my friend, but I have to say that I can't think of any. We don't watch much television here since we went to all internet channels. What we do occasionally watch is on PLUTO...and usually a classic movie. We'll watch some classic movies from TUBI as well.

PLUTO is great. I know back in the 90s there was a lot of “junk TV” as I recall my dad calling it, but there were still some new prime time shows we watched as a family. For example, Dr. Quinn, Full House, etc. I can’t really find any shows made after the 90s that are clean enough that the entire family can sit down and watch without having to sit on pins & needles worrying about what’s going to be said or shown.
It seems Hollywood is missing a huge market and financial windfall. I realize shows as clean as The Andy Griffith Show will probably never be produced again (heck, even a couple decades later, Matlock wasn’t as clean, but certainly still watchable), but is Hollywood now more concerned with inserting Woke references (see new Toy Story movie flop) than actually making financial gains???

Cosby Show was good clean family entertainment. You could also argue Growing Pains or Who's The Boss back in the 80's. Roseanne appealed to the blue collar community and was entertaining for it's time. Sitcoms today are junk. Especially Disney/Nickelodeon family shows being super woke these days.

Yes, I know there are several other decent shows out there, but my point is going beyond the 90s - today, there’s basically nothing. Maybe there’s a little obscure show here or there, but nothing really clean that’s a prime time show in the past twenty years.

Yeah true. 7th Heaven started in 96 and continued into the mid 2000's. It was supposed to be "Christian" but obviously wasn't but there were good family values and life lessons in the series. Many dealt with homophobia/teen suicide/teen drinking/drug use/racism etc.

As for anything post 1990's, I can't recommend anything.

I do recall 7th Heaven. It was a pretty moral show. I thought maybe y’all might have some suggestions for more modern shows that can be watched with kids. I don’t expect a “Christian” TV show, just something that’s not promoting values completely opposed by Christianity. I’m not a complete prude, I enjoy an occasional episode of a show not G rated, but it’s amazing that in the last twenty years, nothing (apparently) has been produced that’s not less than PG-13 rated

Up faith and family has some clean (good ) movies and series.

We occasionally watch "Heartland"...it seems to be fairly moral and I believe is still in production.

I’ll look into Up Faith & Family. It’s just kind of discouraging when the majority of your kids TV viewing options are pretty much limited to what was out when I was a kid, or in some cases, when my parents were kids. Not that it’s bad to watch older classics, but hate for that to be pretty much all there is to watch that’s not fully woke Hollywood crap.

Have you tried Peacock? There are some good things on there. We don't watch it very often, as it likes to lock up and stay in the same place for long periods of time when it's raining or overcast.

there is really only one purpose for television.... and that;s providing marketers a way to sell you something by way of constant and merciless bombardment of ads and commercials.. everything about the way television shows and broadcasting is handled is designed to get your attention and hold it while they throw an advertisement at you.... try to separate you from your money and put it in their pockets.... and from the very beginning of television it has always been that way...

but in the old days of television there would be a pause at some appropriate point in the tv show... ...a brief moment of silence... and then a voice on the tv would say... "and now a word from our sponsor".... but todays television executives view any amount of silence... even a micro-second of it... to be money going down the drain... time wasted...

they are also scared silly that if they let you know a commercial is coming you will leave the tv to go get a snack or mute the sound.... so they cut into tv programs without regard to what is going on in the show and go right into a commercial... and the commercials are all a rude combination of some kind of music banging away, while images flash on the screen in rapid succession with someone yammering away giving the sales pitch.... ..then after roughly 10 ads in a row like that they suddenly cut right back into the regular program without warning.... .

if i had children and we found ourselves at home together with nothing else to do i would read them a book.... make book reading together a regular event.... other than watching tv for news and things like discovery channels.. sports etc.... forget about the television.... ....

but those are just my opinions.... of which i have many.... ..when it comes to tv and modern entertainment, most of those opinions are negative....

The way one of my high school teachers used to teach about television and Hellywood, is this...The CIA's predecessor was very much involved in the television industry from the beginning, as was Hellywood. They wanted to "tell-a-vision" (indoctrinate) people through the use of visual stimulation, garnering empathy/sympathy for socialist/progressive causes. The documentation he provided was astounding. I got the same information in my college classes on psychology/parapsychology/sociology. It's frightening to see how much the idiot box has changed our perceptions of what is right and wrong in this country.

I agree with most of what you said, but when kids get older, just 100% reading isn’t really an option. We do push reading, music lessons, sports and outdoor activities in general (including old fashioned outdoor chores), but kids do naturally want a little bit of entertainment, especially on foul weather days.

.
foul weather days?.... .no comprende'.... here even the rainiest day is warm and friendly enough to play outdoors.. and not be stuck in the house.. .. unless... of course.. you are talking about hurricanes.. 🌀 ...but when those happen the tv is 100% on a news channel to track the storm.... until the power goes out.... ;)

by the way.... when you make statements about what is or isn;t an option with regard to kids... or what you think kids naturally want...... you should clarify that you are talking about your own kids.... and not anyone elses.....i spent my early childhood watching tv during the day..... but then i spent my teenage years mostly without it... and i did not miss it at all... . i know a lot of families raising their kids free of television today too .... ..and they don;t appear to miss it either...

a lot of new posters come to these forums claiming to want advice on what they should do.... when in reality they are just seeking validation on a decision they have already made..... others come here for no other reason than to troll.... ..a few are sincere..... .no offense... but i haven;t decided what to think of you yet... .. and from what i can tell i might not be alone in that regard.... ..

Depending on what part of the country you are in they have a "MeTV" network that plays classic family sitcoms and the Three Stooges. Nothing current on that network other than good wholesome classic sitcoms and Three Stooges reruns.

We raised our kids with no tv. Now two of mine are raising theirs with no tv. Both of those children are walking with the Lord and are fully employed in highly successful ways, and service Christ in their local church. The other two don't watch tv. One wil be a missionary, the other is a medical professional. No one needs tv.
That's commendable. Especially with technology these days and nearly every kid has a smartphone/tablet.
