Was his sin public?

Was his sin public?

Come on Raider, are you serious?

My parents were absolutely no bodies at HAC and they knew about it.

Well their kids were friends with the kids of the elite at the time. :-)

If everyone knows about it? Is it public than?

Also, I remember something about a magazine, with him in it, public?

If your definition of "public" is many people hearing about it, than yes, it is public.

Rumor = a currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful

It wasn't rumor.

So your thought would be rather than contacting the individuals/families that he hurt he should go in front of FBCH and confess?

Many think so.

1 Corinthians 5

1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

2 Corinthians 2

1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

3 And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

I am late to the game here, but I realize that Raider wants my opinion, so here goes.

First of all, I am in no way condoning or making light of DH's past.

Second, I read a lot of his posts and he does mention his sins and restoration on a regular basis.  Of course, he does not give details and names. It just seems as if he is publicly online admitting some of his past.

Third, I am blonde, but not na?ve enough to realize what a master of the written word he is.

Last, I have never read anything that I interpreted as him being arrogant or blaming the victims for his sin.

Raider, you can sleep tonight.  You know my thoughts.

Is raping a teen girl in your youth group in your church office public?

Answer:  Yes.  The victim has gone to the press and is working to change state laws to bring predators to justice.

I think he should go to the police and confess.

The Bible tells us the story of Zaccheus. When Zaccheus got saved he promised that he would make restitution four fold to those he had wronged. So the principle of forgiveness and restitution is taught.

I don't think any of us here know what Dave Hyles has done already to make restitution. He has stated that he has sinned. Here's what I believe he should do. He should have a season before the Lord confessing his sin. Then he should go to every church he was a member of when he committed sin. He should confess what he did to the pastor and other church elders and then publically ask the church to forgive him.

He then should go individually to every person he has wronged beginning with his ex-wife, and ask their forgiveness and seek to make restitution. He should then try to serve the Lord and be a faithful member of a local church.

Instead, he rambles on the internet about how every one should treat him if they were really good people.

Exactly. I remember his blog post blaming those who still remember his sins and still discuss them as the reason he isn't able to serve God effectively. Hey, it wasn't my sin that ruined it for me, it is you still talking about it.

It irks me that he feels like he should get some recognition for how God used him to call people into the ministry.  It is like Nebuchadnezzar bragging in how God used him to work a miracle in the fiery furnace or the lion's den.  Just because God worked in someone's life despite of Davey's actions does not make his raping ways righteous.

And his methods off manipulation continue.

First Baptist Church of Hammond as led by their Pastor did a terrible disservice to Dave Hyles by not Biblically disciplining him.  They were derelict in duty through ignorance, arrogance, or perhaps lacked individual moral integrity to hold a young man accountable for his wickedness.  If a church isn't disciplining they are not restoring.  And now instead of at least having the chance for one to go completely through the accountable steps to be restored to a church all we have is much more sin that followed and many broken relationships that can never be restored this side of heaven.  He can't win in this.  He has the mark of Cain his entire life.  It should have never gone like it did.

Either give a man a chance to be restored and if he decides to not be then it is on him and not the church.  FBCH will have to account for this grievous sin.

And when I speak of restoration I am only referring to restoral of relationship to the local Body of Believers.  Position of leadership which lead to the pride which was the iniquity that allowed the transgression NEVER should be placed on a man with such weakness EVER again.  To do so only places them in the exact position to fall again.  Some pastors in this nation also have much to account for, in placing him in leadership after his fall.
