Dave Hyles' restoration

Raider, No

Sherryh, I'm taking it that your response was to this post??

So regardless of what Dave Hyles would do to make things right, he can't change and be restored?

Davey-boy get no sympathy from me. I could say much more.

Hats off to TidesofTruth, Sherryh & BALAAM for their comments

Did anyone else notice in his comments that evidently some at FBHC had less than encouraging & edifying words for him during his visit? I'd shake their hands.

Another note: Davey-boy only posted pics with guys................hummmmmmmmm. Think he got bumped with a few 10 foot poles?

There are several reasons why he wouldn't have wanted to come face-to-face with me, ever.

Come on...lop it out there.

Is the prevailing opinion, Dr. Evans remained silent during the Dave Hyles scandal to protect his daughters reputation and that of his family or to protect Dr. Hyles and the Ministry.

The first I can see but the second seems more difficult to fathom.

I wouldn't buy a vacuum from him.

I wonder what he does for a living.
I may have misunderstood the subject person, I am referring to Dr. Evans.
His new wife has money, big money.

Raider, you are correct I'm sorry I was in a hurry. There are some who can never be helped/changed this is just from my experience.

First Baptist Church of Hammond as led by their Pastor did a terrible disservice to Dave Hyles by not Biblically disciplining him.  They were derelict in duty through ignorance, arrogance, or perhaps lacked individual moral integrity to hold a young man accountable for his wickedness.  If a church isn't disciplining they are not restoring.  And now instead of at least having the chance for one to go completely through the accountable steps to be restored to a church all we have is much more sin that followed and many broken relationships that can never be restored this side of heaven.  He can't win in this.  He has the mark of Cain his entire life.  It should have never gone like it did.

Either give a man a chance to be restored and if he decides to not be then it is on him and not the church.  FBCH will have to account for this grievous sin.
But that was the guy who preached the famous sermon........"DUTY".  ::)

Do as I say, not as I do.

Dave Hyles is reading this and laughing thinking, "I got away with molesting children, raping underage girls and murdering my son!  And those idiot HACkers still buy my books."

You said a mouthful there.

He's laughing all the way to the bank, saying, thank god (lower case on purpose) for Bob Gray.

I'm sure we have all seen the photos and read what Dave Hyles posted on his FB after his recent visit to Hammond.  As we have discussed on many threads, we all know him in a different way depending on when you attended HAC/FBCH.

As for my time at HAC, Dave was the youth pastor at FBCH and taught Church Ed and a few other classes at HAC.  He was an excellent teacher.  He always dressed sharp and carried himself well.  He seemed to be able to relate to the Hacker as well as the normal student.  He was a favorite preacher in chapel.

I believe it was after my first or second year at HAC that Dave left to pastor in Texas.  I knew or had heard nothing about any problems.  Again, I was just a college kid.  I remember when the students were allowed to vote for their favorite out of town preacher to come back and preach in chapel.  Dave was one of the top 3.

Of course, we all have now heard about the things that were going on and the hurt he caused.  Sad indeed.

Here is the topic for this thread.  In your opinion, what does Dave Hyles need to do at this point in his life to be restored or to show repentance?  is it possible for him to make things right?

Here is one of Dave's observations on his trip:

8. Pastor Wilkerson seems like a genuine and caring pastor. I do not know him well, but he was gracious to me in spite of the fact that a couple of his own staff men would be displeased at him treating me like a human, Just acknowledging our presence, I am sure brought him criticism, but he was gracious anyway, and it allowed others who love us to know we were there so they could greet us. It is evident that he has won the hearts of the people and we are all pleased to see that. When he spoke about God touching his heart at the 1980 Youth Conference when the theme was 'So You Want To Be a Star" I kinda felt that was for me because I was the one who was still leading the Your Conference then.
It is very obviously still all about Dave in his mind.
This post wreaks of it.

Earnestly Contend

I wonder what would have happened if Dave had shown up at FBC without his mom. What kind of reception would he have gotten then?
