In our market it is hard to find an affordable rental. My mortgage is $1650. Nothing even close to that in rental options.
I guess it’s supply and demand.
Rent here is more reasonable than that.

I will probably rent the rest of my life. I'm debating on ownership vs rent. I love to listen to him but I don't follow everything he says.
Sherrryh - my two cents…spend a few bucks and speak with a local financial advisor. People on this forum are typing away on computers from all over the country and cannot relate to your local economy and unique financial situation. Florida is so unique that I’d argue the economy of where you’re at in southern Florida can be very different than it is a just hour or two away. Generally speaking, renting in Florida is a horrible option. You have no control over future rental rates and it can cost a fortune when you’re forced into moving expenses because the landlord decides to raise rent.

If you really want to rent, maybe focus on a 55+ community. Even for purchasing, 55+ communities are generally going to be less expensive because the pool of buyers is smaller and usually your maintenance is covered in HOA dues, which is similar to what you get in a traditional apartment rental. Those communities cater to folks on a fixed income. However, again, speak with a financial advisor near you. Most offer free consultations and, similar to consulting with an attorney for a free consultation, you might be able to get most of your answers in one free consultation without having to become a client or spend a dime.

I just remembered...
Two years ago my wife went to Norway, Iceland and Denmark.

They are a cashless society. I sent her with a couple of debit cards and an Apple credit card. Only the Apple card was accepted.

Without a credit card, I don't know how you can travel to Europe these days.

Wow. I wouldn't want to use mine unless I put aside all the money I would spend and pay the balance off as soon as I got back.

We're on a vacation/business trip currently and everywhere we go we get dinged for using our credit or debit card. Earlier today, I broke down and withdrew $200 from an ATM despite the notice that I would be charged $4 but when I looked at my balance, on $4 fee was taken. I think that was because our credit union might have a connection with the bank we visited.
