Do you know a JAV rule that was not Bible based?

1. Female staff members/college had to wear panty hose (bare legs were sexually aluring)
2. Female staff members/college could not wear shoes that did not cover the heals (these types of shoes were worldly)
3. Female staff members/college students could not have any size of slit in thier dresses (slits are just to put on a leg show and sexually attract men)
4. Male staff members/college students could not have facial hair
5. People that have been Biblically divorced cannot be married in the main auditorium becasue that would defile it. (Even though Tommy Boy let that happen with one of his favorites that is no longer there)
6. People that have married a Biblically divorced spouse cannot serve as a Deacon, Trustee or Assistant Pastor in the church (Although JAV married a divorced woman and that is ok)
7. Female staff members/college students could not wear leggings under their skirts (this was just to draw attention to their legs)

I had heard that female college students were not allowed to have bangs as part of their hairstyle because Tommy Boy said this was worldly. I was told this by a college student but I have gone and don't know any female college students anymore to verify this rule.

One of the first things Tom changed when he took over were some of these rules......women no longer had to wear hoses everytime they stepped out of the house.
The women could wear backless shoes and women could wear skirts with a fly, JAV had seen a girl serving in the cafeteria, she had a Jean skirt on and he got upset because it looked like she had on pants. All he could see was the top, why was he focusing there, weird but that out lawed all skirts with a fly till Tom over ruled that one. These are just a few that Tom changed when he took over.
I do know that there have been staff men that were divorced or their spouse was yet they still were on staff to be honest these were some of the best staff men members ever,  also know that Tom has and still has his haircut by a female yet if memory serves me correctly men would get demerits if a women was to cut their hair even if  in a barbershop yet he did and she worked in s beautyshop, double standard if you ask me.

Quite frankly there are too many to list probably. I would need to think on it for some of the crazy ones.

I do find it interesting given the current situation that 4 out of 7 of the rules you listed were about women.

I do remember one of the craziest rules for the girls at the dorm was that they could not leave the room without a robe on even if there was a fire.

I think most rules that were made were towards women. I had heard that all the rules against women came from Mrs. Vineyard because those were the things that JAV would focus on when his eyes would wander away from his wife.

If anyone has a copy of the OBC handbook that students are required to read and sign the first week of class, now would be a good place to post it.

I am sure just about every rule in it is not based upon Scripture.

And the idea that the Vineyard men have wandering eyes is so true.  Not just wandering eyes but wandering thought lives!!  Just go take a trip with JAV, Tom, Paul and a couple pet staff men and listen to them.  You would be shocked!!

But then, come to think of it, maybe you wouldn't be so shocked.

This one doesn't sound right. There is a divorced and re-married man on staff as an assistant pastor, JV hired him, it may not be talked about, but it is not hidden information.

If you are one of JAV's buddies the rules don't apply. One thing I learned while up there was the Bible has different rules for people that are close to JAV and people that are not close to him depending on which scriptures he wants to show you or use.

When my sister-in-law attended, she came home with all kinds of new "convictions".  Open toed shoes were a big one.  I'm assuming that came from JAV.  She also mentioned that girls were required to sleep in culottes in case there was a fire.  Culottes had to be pleated or have darts to give the impression of it being a full skirt.  No V-neck shirts...they were an "arrow to the breasts".  I'm sure I'll think of more....

Now that you mention it I remember the culottes rule, this was also in case of a tornado they can go to the shelter area quickly when they were staying in the dorms on 36th.

They had a lot of rules regarding relationships in WHBS and OBC. Although if you were related to the Vineyards the rules didn't apply. At least not until most of the church thought that Bradley Keeton and Amy Vineyard were kissing cousins. There for a while they would always be together and not be around other teenagers, walking up and down the halls, in the parking lot, and setting together back by the vending machines. You could tell by watching them they were two kids attracted to each other.  It wasn't until several church members made comments they were told to not 'fellowship' so much at church.

I am so glad we were long gone from that place and did not have to watch that junk occurring!  I saw enough preferential treatment to the Vineyard kin to last a life time

JAV would always talk about how many notes he would take in his Bible. I wonder now if he was making notes or re-writing the Bible to fit his idealology.

.....

Of course Tommy Boy changed the rules.  He had to losen them so he could get a good look at the ladies so he did not waste his texting on one without the "right equipment" as his daddy would say.

An email that was sent to me.

"Galatians 5 is so plain about law and grace. Many of the rules/standards they enforced had various origins and were not followed by the leaders. For example, the no wearing backless shoe rule came from JoAnn because she deemed it sexy and sensual (remember she can't trust Jim). She did wear them on occasion herself though. The nylons at all time rule was JoAnn also probably because she herself did. The no worldly music a classic IFB rule but the whole Vineyard family listened to whatever they wanted. Jim and Dan Post had heated words on one of the infamous fishing trips (that ruined many a young boy) because Jim had country music blaring. The no porn rule was for everyone but Jim. It's common knowledge he "researched" porn and even had it drop out of the newspaper under his arm at a hotel during one of those big God Save America events. The truth is when the head honcho is a perverted predator, the wife doesn't trust him, the kids are trained under this, the staff are yes men and the members full of fear, it is an atmosphere of man made rules increasing as time passes and as Galatians 5 says Christ is of no effect."

Nailed the Vineyard kingdom in that last sentence.

Speaking of JAV's "research". I often wondered why his computer and computer desk was in the back of his office to where no one could even tell he was at the computer.    hmmmmmm

I know for a fact that Vineyard listened to Marty Robbins while the college students could not listen to Steve Green. Talk about your classic double standard??

Yep, I got in JAV's suburban once and he had a bunch of country music CD's just sitting there that he listens to all the time.  Just shook my head asked myself if I was surprised.  Answered myself, "nope!!"  Five hours later when we all arrived back to the WHBC parking lot and I exited of the surburban I said then and there I would never travel anywhere or for anything again in a vehicle with JAV.  He and his buddies on his staff were discusting that day.  In hind sight it should not have surprised me but it did that day.

Definitely a double standard in all things Vineyard

You may have a shorter list of JAV rules, if the question was any of them bible based.

I learned to love Marty Robbins traveling with the Ambassadors!  :)  The double standard drove me nuts.  Oh well, as he always said, "The real you will always stand up."  Sure did!!!

Now that I am gone and I think back to the sermons I heard there it seems that alot of JAV's sermons made a reference to a lady's package. He also talked about how when you get old the sand shifts and such. He always wanted to hear the good looking singers time and again sing his "favorite" songs. Those songs were soooooo boring but I guess he wasn't really paying attention to the songs.

I still can't listen to "Does Jesus Care" or "There is a river" without thinking of how many services they ended...
