The British-Israelite heresy was propagated by cult leader Herbert Armstrong of the Worldwide Church of God. After his death, the WCG in 1995 publicly repudiated the British-Israelite teaching, but not to worry, we still have nutcases like Glenn Beck to keep this delusion going.

The WCG repudiated British-Israelism, but there were plenty of splinter groups who continued to affirm the "true teachings" of Herbert W. Armstrong: notably his son Garner Ted Armstrong, and Gerald Flurry of the Philadelphia Church of God, and many smaller factions.

Mormonism, too, is a Lost Tribes cult. Not British-Israelist per se, but there's some overlap: some Mormons believe they are descended from the tribe of Ephraim, and when Mormonism came to Great Britain, many of them also adopted British-Israel beliefs.

Yes, there are many breakaway groups who left the Worldwide Church of God when they rejected Herbie's anti-trinitarianism and other heresies. Someone has counted as many as 100 rump groups that carry on the pernicious Armstrong legacy. We need to especially beware of the Living Church of God, sponsor of the "Tomorrow's World" television broadcast and "Tomorrow's World" prophecy magazine. Many evangelical Christians watch and read "Tomorrow's World" and do not realize that these are propagating heresy and false prophecies that don't come true.

I’ll take a stab at this I could probably get it completely wrong.

My guess is, they do not have a son of their own to convince to do the same? Or their son already has a career or already has a family.

My wife’s family believes this war is 100% justifiable but for some reason have not talked to their oldest son (who is 20) to go and fight this patriotic war.

My experience tells me that parents that are for this war always have a reason why they wouldn’t encourage their son to join. For example, the military isn’t a good Christian atmosphere or something like this.

Therefore, the war is reasonable enough for others to send their son but not theirs. How convenient!

You guessed correctly. Their sons had finished college and started good careers. I'm not going to say any more, or I'll start ranting.
