I was very privileged to know George and Marilyn very well for many years. We attended the same church after they left FBC. They stayed with my in-laws whenever they were traveling in their part of the country. But what was most special to me was....years before we became close to them, my husband and I knew him from college of course. We were in a restaurant in the early 80's (ish) and we watched them as they ate and interacted with the wait staff. He had no idea we were watching from a few tables away. Their kindness and love to the waitstaff was plain and when they finished eating, we watched George stand and speak with the busboy for a few minutes...we could hear bits and pieces of their conversation and it was obvious that George was sharing the gospel...but in a sweet and honest way. We got to watch him live what he preached and what he believed. And then years later when we became friends and spent time with them...it was still true. Agree with him or not, George Godfrey believed wholeheartedly what he preached and I cannot begin to imagine his joy to see his Savior face to face.
