God save us from those who believe EVERYTHING must come through the local church

I have a friend. A brother in Christ that setup a communion table in his local church.....were individuals/families could partake of the "bread" and "grape juice" any time they want to.

Now, he's getting bashed from all sides by those who feel like this isn't proper because its not going through the local church service and being served by church officers.

Can people really be that stupid?

Don't you get tired of all this nonsense?

Yes, it's stupid.  This is even more stupid:

Just what are you trying to say?

Nothing, I just find the concept of pre-packaged communion juice and cracker humorous.

While I do believe we can partake of the bread and wine privately in remembrance of Jesus, I also think the ideal is when there's a "communion" in "communion", that is, a sharing of the bread and wine.  Yes, it's communion with Christ.  But I also just like the idea of sharing it with believers.

But whether it's the local assembly, or a home assembly, or a family, or whatever, is not an issue.

Ah - so you think setting up a little table with crackers on it is communion?

No. It just providing the resources for communion.

I'll ask again...

Ah.... so you think baptism must be officiated by the proper authority?

Can you give an example in Scripture of somebody who baptized themselves?

Why would I do that and why would you ask the question?

Any believer can perform baptism. I asked about authority. You know what I asked. Don't be dishonest.

Did you give up on the communion argument?

What an idiot! My church makes the resources for communion available for free. Heck, they even set aside some time once a month to have it.

Oh... that what they did at Corinth.... my bad....

I asked because it appeared you were depriving the church of her authority in both of her duly appointed ordinances.  The authority, whether delegated to a member of the church or done by an ordained minister still rests with the church.

And I didn't give up on the communion argument.  I gave you sufficient rationale for why I believe what I believe and failed to see where your argument carried any scriptural warrant/basis.

So your church paid for it. What idiots. They could have just gone to some other local church and get it for free.....

You're so stupid sometimes. You get so angry you can't see past your argument.

The local church has self appointed authority. Communion isn't an ordinance that owes its very practice to any local church authority. It came from Christ to his own.

Maybe in your mind. I referenced the origin of communion. Do you not care about the origin of communion?

Christ delegated authority to the church, for a variety of things.  Another of which is discipline.  It ain't a properly constituted (authoritative) church if it doesn't practice discipline on its members.

It's origin, like any warranted command,  is rooted in Christ and His authority, and it was shared corporately, communicated for corporate purposes.

I'd like to see you make that connection. Show me just how you get from the authority God gave the early church to your church of choice today?

It has nothing but self appointed authority. You're "naming it and claiming it".

It's origin, like any warranted command,  is rooted in Christ and His authority, and it was shared corporately, communicated for corporate purposes.

So your "naming it and claiming it"? Why don't you name and claim the ability of works of those Christ empowered? You ready to heal the sick and raise the dead?

Matthew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

I don't see any authority for your church of choice there. Explain this to me. I see empowerment of individuals.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

I see empowerment for individuals. Not the local church.

Not to mention the fact that the local church can't produce works. Individuals do.

Your vision needs a trip to the spiritual Optometrist. :D

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Well. You know what I think about Revelation. Either way.... its a call to individuals within that church. A church that included an entire city. Not just 1500 square feet down on 1st and main. With 1500 on 2nd and Main... and 1500 on third and Main.

By the way.... "that church" could have seen as a way to remove a bad "candlestick"..... :)

That's explicitly one of the purposes given for Communion, outlined in multiple text by varying authors.

If it was.... .then lets just have a party and forget about the bread and the wine.

Oh... that what they did at Corinth.... my bad....

Going it alone (i.e. the "party") was what they were being condemned for. What you are attempting to argue from the text is the very opposite thing being stated by the text.

The local church has self appointed authority.

Then it isn't a church.

So you practice communion with just a handful of people and you're arguing against personal communion?

What about the foreign missionary? Does he wait till he establishes a church before observing the "Lord's Supper"?

"when ye come together"

Sounds corporate to me.

Why do you apply it to the local church?

Because he was writing to the local church at Corinth???

Now don't go anywhere......

Yes. Paul was writing to local church and they were assembling together....but that's not how it started. It stated with just a few in a little room.

Luk 22:17  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
Luk 22:18  For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
Luk 22:19  And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Luk 22:20  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

It wasn't in a church. I wasn't at the Temple.

Your bias is showing....

By the way,

Jesus isn't around to do it anymore. Why don't you demand Jesus show up and administer it Himself?

I think Hebrews called it that gathering a "church"
