Govt Shutdown - has anyone been personally/directly affected?

Seems like they would extend the extension date.  A couple of ladies in our church work at the IRS and I have been reading their "Shutdown Updates" on Facebook.  The younger is enjoying time with family and the elder (her manager) is tackling home projects.  I know them and don't find that interesting, either.  ;D

 
I didn't notice this thread at first, either.  As I said in the other one:

I don't work for the government, but for reasons too twisted to explain, I'll be out of a job on the 15th if the government doesn't get funded first.  But I'll get my job back once the government is funded again. 

I'm ambivalent about the whole thing, personally.  It's like watching Obama drive off a cliff in my new car.

 
My stepdad is an air traffic controller, he still has to work but isn't getting paid until this thing resolves itself.

At least he gets paid eventually for work he did.  That's a good thing.

They should be paid for work provided (I'm sure you agree) but future payment does not buy this week's groceries.
 
I'm not directly affected in any way that I'm aware of...  :-\

But maybe I'm being regulated less and spied upon less, which would be all to the good.  :P
 
As we are outside of Washington DC we have many members who are government employees who are affected as well as contractors who are currently furloughed.

Praying for a common-sense solution from Washington...no I am not holding my breath!
 
It may be just a rumor, but I have read where the furloughed federal workers (not called back to work) will receive full back pay after this is all hashed out.  Honestly, I don't wish any of them any economic ill-will, but it seems a tad generous of us taxpayers to pay for their (forced) vacation.  I'd take the bet that the private-sector workers affected by the shutdown will not receive any back pay from their employers.

I'm not a federal worker, but my job depends on government funding and I won't be receiving any back pay.  My job shuts down as of next Wednesday if the government doesn't get funded.  At that point, it's leave without pay until the government gets funded again.

Why the ridiculous shutdowns at the open-access national monuments and parks?  At first I thought the Administration was trying to annoy people so they would blame the Republicans in the House of Representatives for the shutdown.  But the more I look at the targets: families of deceased military, seniors tour group at Yellowstone, homeowners who have to use federal access to reach their homes, private businesses on federal land, tourists locked in or out of national parks, elderly veterans at national monuments- the more I see a common denominator in that all are active or retired working taxpayers. It isn't like access to federally-funded housing projects are blocked.

Call me cynical, but I wonder if there is a concerted effort to prod and poke the average joe to see how he will react to strong-arm tactics by the government.  With important elections a year away, could they be collecting data to determine how much resistance the average American is willing to exert against tyrannical antics?

That's exactly what it is.  Obama is a community agitator.  That was his job. 

I don't know if you've been following this news, but the DHS, FEMA, etc. is gearing up for a revolt.  That's because the Obama administration is trying to cause one.  Personally, I don't think it will happen, but they're pushing as hard as they can.  It might happen if the dollar collapses, and they're pushing for that, too.

The problem here is that very few will blame the party causing this. Those who lean right will blame the Democrats. Those who lean left will blame the Republicans. And none will blame the group that should get the blame...

...incumbents.

Call me a loon too. My concern is that there will be an incident, either real or concocted that will give our President an excuse to invoke martial law.  And you know what that means, total control.
