GRACE Report on BJU Sexual Abuse Cases Released

The 300 page GRACE Report has been outlined to make it easier to find topics and content. This is a work in progress and last I checked they were up to Chapter 6:

I have not seen anything else on this story outside of the forum.....not a peep from anyone who might be considered a fundamentalist leader. Again, the story needs some traction outside of a few Internet forums and the original distribution of the breaking story by AP or whoever released it. I don't see that happening at this point and so there is no pressure to break cover.

1. Nothing at the Vatican in Greenville will change.

2. There is no x-dumb leaders talking about this because x-dumb has no leader that anyone cares to listen to. Irrelevant.

3. Spin, spin spin, lie, lie lie.

4. The only reason this report was commissioned in the first place is outside pressure and they have a declining student body, a finger in the hole of the dam approach.  It backfired on them.

Hope they are very successful.  There is NO EXCUSE for their behavior and cover up of sexual abuse.  The place should be shut down along with HAC and all other similar skools. Hoping the chickens have come home to roost.  Praying that my camp never gets into the same situation.  If they do, they should be shut down as well.

FWIW there has been plenty of conversation on Sharper Iron.

Not sure who would qualify as a "leader" to meet the demand that one "speak out" on the subject.

Also, I would rather wait for a "response" based upon a full reading rather than a "reaction". Jerking knees aren't usually the best commentary.

So if y'all could make a list of all the men and women who should be responding I would appreciate it. Then I will know who it is I am supposed to be upset with.

The fact that we, Sharper Iron, stufffunideslike etc talk about it, does not a story make, as far as the 'real world' goes.
We are the last people that they would feel the need to respond to...and I understand that as a fact of life.
Personally, I'd be interested in hearing what Chappell or Powell had to say.
They are the two leaders in the movement that seem to have prospering ministries.

Some who are bitter and obsessed (in spite of 'the fact' that x-fundy's can't be bitter or obsessed) wouldn't be pleased, no matter the response...which is another reason they don't feel compelled to respond.

My point exactly, but 'How can that be'?!
Since 'all of us' are so upset about it?  ;)

Have you read the findings TB?, what are your conclusions?

I agree with the conclusions of the Grace Report....that's a given since they had no axe to grind.
I am not as upset with BJU's response as Amazed or Billy.
And, I think the leaders in fundamentalism should offer an opinion or statement.

But, I can partially understand why they might choose not to....
Falwell used to say that, sometimes it didn't matter what you said....your enemies would use it against you.

Who cares what Chappell or any other insulated "leader" within an incestuous minority group within Christendom thinks?

If we as Jesus followers are supposed to be light in dark places,  I'm much more concerned with how effective the Body of Christ is at doing its 2000 year old mission of making disciples. And any institution that claims to be about that mission while actively facilitating sexual abuse needs to be torn down brick by brick.

I'm sure the demolition crews will be in place as soon as they are made aware of this thread....

Thank you for referring me to Sharper Iron. I had looked there for commentary after Pettit's pre-report statement, but had not gone back because it seemed they were dismissive of the GRACE Report. Some still are, which I find sad.

I think the GRACE Report is a wake up call to all Fundy colleges, many (if not most) have been accused to treating sex abuse victims badly, not reporting attacks to the police, and using unqualified counselors. They are not giving public statements, but I pray they will learn from this and not just be dismissive.

Victims from other colleges might feel validated by the GRACE Report and come forward. No one deserves to be blamed for being sexually assaulted.
