I have no problem complimenting folks. On the other hand, giving then credit for growing the church...

But, go ahead...celebrate what scripture clearly condemns.

Thanks for your permission.  It means a lot to me.

1 Timothy 5:17

"Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine."
I expect no less. Have you polished your statue of Hyles yet today?

It seems to me that they stretched things a bit in 1975.  Not sure why they felt the need to give out 7 Honorary Doctorates.  I really question the Streeter and Rausch choices.  Almost like "home town awards".

Does anyone think I can get one?
Doesn't count. You aren't a mighty preacher man.

You might want to notice that not all receiving this recognition are pastors.

Mighty preacher men should get double honorary doctorates.

FBC had just doubled their auditorium months before, they were now out of the Civic Center and this was the first college graduation in the enlarged auditorium.  They made sure it made a lasting impression, and today we're writing about it 38 years later!!  I remember how JH would brag how he designed the enlarged auditiorium, even picking out the color scheme....all that from a self professed "color blind" individual.

Does anyone know anything about these preachers who received Honorary Doctorates in 1975?

Got it.  I'm surprised one of the brethren hasn't jumped on it yet.  For some reason I had a 1975 Caber.

Ok now this is kind of funny. Jenkins had a youth pastor named Derrick Hagland ( not sure of spelling). He had a radio spot of about 5 minutes on good old FBC radio. They decided to make him something like a vice-president of Jenkins college and zippety bing bang he was all of a sudden DOCTOR Derrick Hagland! Nothing wrong with him and all that but you just think to yourself, "OH Brother.".

You act as if he showed up one day then the next day he was honored with the award.

He worked on Jenkins staff for over 20 years. He was youth pastor & college teacher then Vice president.

Not suggesting that merits a Honorary doctorate but he has been faithful & worked hard for 20 years.
