"Home" churches

Would you take up arms against the U.S. Gov?

I'll answer: No, you wouldn't, because the time is past when it would have done any good. And you didn't, then.

The generation before you gave it away.

If you can't picture U.S. Christians hiding in the woods, like the escaped slaves of 160 years ago, then you are in full possession of your mushy skull still.
I'd quote somebody other than the man who payed Elton John a million $ to sing at his wedding, if I were you, you are so making my point.

Haklo

I agree with Prophet on this. The "culture war" has already been lost.

When the church turned to the Republican party to do for them what they should have done themselves all hope of divine spiritual intervention was lost. We are reaping what has been sown. The cycle of the book of Judges repeats itself and we are living in the front end of the oppression stage. It will get worse before it gets better because we will deny that it was actually us who sinned and refuse to cry out for deliverance. Until the church repents and cries out to God in honest confession, we will not see the redemptive judge.

While the above is written in metaphor, for those who want to see it, the truth is as clear as can be communicated.

You agree with the taking up arms against the gubmit, part?
The culture war was not on my mind when I challenged Peerophet on his my generation is smarter and more insightful than previous generations. And I challenged his delusional thinking as a part of one of the dumbest and most self centered generations in recent memory...but even the baby boomers eventually grew up....most of them anyway.  :)

Your post contains some false assumptions.
There are many in all generations that can separate spiritual and governmental responsibility.
I believe the only hope for a sin cursed world is what it always has been, regardless of the generation, a spiritual renewal...which happens among Gods people, not the culture or the government.

OK, we all get it, You all grew up.

Back to the discussion.

Everything that I have mentioned, concerning doctrine, you find in the NT.

Your practice, of corporately held debt, although practical to you, isn't found represented in Scripture.  Will you at least cede  that point?

And, we hope your generation does the same....eventually!  :)
The "practice of corporately held debt isn't found represented in scripture" is a loaded assumption.
The practice of Sunday School, Revival meetings, Ladies Bible Studies, senior citizens meetings etc aren't represented in Scripture, but neither are they forbidden or condemned in Scripture.
The church is never told, commanded or is it even suggested as to where to meet or where not to meet.

Will you at least cede that point?

Yes, I will gladly acknowledge the truth.

I cede the point.

So, now we can get somewhere.

All of the collected monies in the NT churches, were distributed to the needs of Saints, including Elders'  needsX2.  Can we cede that point?

I don't cede that point, because you can't prove that point.
You seem to build 'doctrine' by what the NT doesn't say....

OK, I didn't phrase that we'll.

What I meant to ask, is : would you cede the point that in every example of giving in the churches,  mentioned in the NT,  the donated monies/goods were given to the needs of Saints, including paying Elders?

Parallel to that, would you also cede that no example is given us, of corporate expenditures, purchases, or debts?

BTW, I'm not building any doctrine on what isn't there, I'm just advocating for the recognition of anything  that isn't there, as tradition rather than doctrine.

I have said over and over, that there was a point in U.S. History, that the model that you so desperately cling to, was practical.
But it is simply tradition, and there is no reason to hold on to it, when the social climate here has so drastically changed.

Here is where my concern lies. In the eyes today's culture there is very little distinction between "God's people" and the Republican party. Yes that is a stereotype but as with all stereotypes there is an element of truth. You ask about taking up arms against the government but is it not the right wing of American politics that says we need our guns for just such activities?

My point is that the church has allowed political talking points to rise to the level of doctrine. To many of my brethren, it is seen as an imperative that I agree with the politics or I am certainly a bad America and at best a questionable Christian. Kind of a civics class version of legalism.

Pulled pork to little p peerophet:
Do you believe that the church shouldn't do anything not specifically 'illustrated' in scripture? My contention is that the NT is not 'specific on specifics' in order to give the church in each subsequent generation the freedom and ability to innovate their methodology.

As to your opinions, they are, IMO based on your experience. And thankfully your generation is not monochrome....they all don't share your idiosyncrasy abouti church methodology.

You didn't answer the question.

Why do you feel like you said anything different, here, then what I said?
