The public schools are no advantage for any trade or the "STEM side of the equation." The one goal of public education is that students come out thinking like atheists.

You can't paint them with one brush. Some school district have a large % of their staff are Christians. I know you did not ask me, but I am only for the war in Iran if the use of nuclear weapons were imminent. I do not think the Trump Adminstration did a good job convincing the nation that they had no choice. for many it would not have mattered but for many it does make a difference. Republicans all across the ticket are going to get lkilled because of the war. Elections do matter.

It's complicated. In the schools I attended growing up, half my teachers attended one of the two churches my family went to, either the United Church (liberal mainline denomination, though our local church was quite evangelical) or the Brethren. My high-school music, algebra, and one of my history teachers were in fact Brethren elders. Small town, small-town values, small-town school.

Of course that was 30+ years ago and I don't believe any of the staff that taught during my elementary or high-school career are still working. And they also amalgamated a lot of the local school boards into large regional ones in the late 1990s, so it wasn't just people from town that taught at the local school anymore: staff was imported from the city.

I wouldn't unequivocally condemn public-school education. It did fine by me. But it's not what I used to be, and if I had kids I wouldn't necessarily send them to a public school now. Especially if I could afford to send them to a Christian school instead--as it happens, Ottawa's local Christian high school is amongst the best schools in the province.
