How frequently does your church observe the Lord’s Supper?

We have the Lords supper first Sunday of every month. If we have a special service, a special business meeting or our Sr. pastor is away on the first sunday we postpone it to the second sunday.

I am aware of churches who have it every week which seems too frequesnt to me and others that have it once per quarter which seems too infrequent to me. Of copurse I respect every churches to prcatice as they see fit for them and support their own preferences.

Do any of you attend a church that uses real wine during communion (Lords Supper)?

No, but I've visited churches that did. It's the norm for Anglican churches, and some (not all) Brethren chapels.

Lord’s Supper frequency at your church, and does that suit your preference?
Weekly. We just spent 2 weeks with the pastor preaching about the Lord's supper, but he never proved we should do it weekly. Then we changed to weekly. I like it.

When I was in the Church of Christ in he 80's it was weekly, but it was old hat. It was like "Just get this over with."

That's when it's better not to do it. In a church like that, we're there those who were sickly and weak among you?

I'm guessing that if you were to ask my pastor why we don't do communion every week, besides expense and practically, he'd point out that he doesn't want it to become "old hat".

It's like that at my old Brethren church. It felt rushed and inconsequential, like it was something to endure and get over with between the singing and the lesson

And yet I could have done the "old hat" for weeks, then go to a different chapel and find that their weekly communion was quite solemn and weighty. So doing it weekly per se wasn't the issue.

I read a pretty good article regarding the Puritans (varying) frequency of observance of the Lord’s Supper. It made one argument that claiming weekly observance is likely to cause tedium is a weak objection because the same could be said of the reading of the word, or prayer, etc. They were coming at it from a “means of grace” standpoint, but I think there’s a modest amount of truth to the notion that any religious activity can become ritualistic if we don’t guard our heart from such staleness.

Some Baptist churches in the south, and possibly all over the country, only baptise once or twice a year and they make a big day of it. Some have dinner on the grounds and special music an even a church picnic with games and the like. often friends, family and even neighbors are invited to attend. Some baptize in the river in the spring and again in the fall. It's not the way we do it, but if it works for them I can see how it would be a great event to evangalize and to reach out to the community.

Our church baptizes at the Gates of Hell. Literally. Once a year in August, we gather in a huge picnic shelter at Hell's Gate State Park on the banks of the Snake River. Huge church picnic and worship service. We then go down to the river and baptize among everyone playing in the water. It's a lot of fun. I just love the fact that Hell's Gate is where we do it. "...and the gates of hell will not prevail..." To my twisted thinking, it's as though we are taunting death by snatching people out of death's grasp an baptizing them on the spot.

Now, if you want a REAL baptism experience, go about 85 miles south of Hell's Gate into the mountains around Enterprise OR to Wallowa Lake IN MAY. I've been with a church that's done that. The folks come out of there speaking in tongues!😂

I've been in services where communion cups weren't available so they passed around a big bowl of grapes 🍇.
