Humility

Summary: Grace gives you the ability to succeed in God's work, and humility gives you grace. Humility results from submission to authority.

Some of you were bus workers but not the bus captain. Yet, you were still reaching more people for Christ than most Christians ever will. By obeying someone else, you were blessed with success.

Jim and his wife were failed missionaries who lasted five months here. They managed to cause minor splits in two churches while failing at the orphanage they came to help. At the orphanage, Jim could play the guitar, so that got him some results, but his wife just couldn't succeed. One Saturday morning, we had to cancel two events while she screamed (literally) at us that she had been promised that she could cut the kids' hair.

I was running the children's church at the Baptist church at the time, and she and Jim had just been run off from the orphanage. I couldn't get anyone to help me that Sunday, so I asked her. She replied with a dramatic and grief-stricken lecture about how she would submit to authority (Someone must have explained it to her), so she would help.

And it was one of the best children's churches we ever had. She did an outstanding job helping.

When we submit to one another, we produce humility, which produces grace, which produces success in God's work. Despite a pile of failures, when she would submit, God used her.

Just an observation, but it seems you see yourself as a leader that others should follow? Is that what you get out of humility?

Seems like all these stories you're telling revolve around God "blessing" you with knowledge above and beyond those around you.

Again, I say, success isn't an absolute indicator of God's pleasure, blessing, or desire. Have you ever read the book of Hebrews?

Heb 11:35 : and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
Heb 11:36  And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
Heb 11:37  They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;
Heb 11:38  (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

I have a friend that is very active in personally attempting to reach the lost. He said to me one day the old line "if just one gets saved it will be worth it all". To which I responded. "If NO ONE gets saved, it will be worth it all."

Faithfulness in the mist of utter rejection is demanded of God. "Worth" is all about God and nothing about us. He gives the increase as He sees fit.

Nah, I'm just a glorified bus captain. But God is blessing me, so I succeed.

As long as everyone under you obeys you?

Beats me. I run the route by myself.

Position doesn't preclude desire. Not questioning your desire just pointing out your faulting reasoning.

Either way, I think you're dead wrong on your view that outward appearance of gain is an indication of God's pleasure in you.

I could tell you how I've been "blessed" for some time. You'd probably get tired of reading it. Either way, everything I've gained, I could lose in an instant. I hope and pray it would never make me think that God wasn't pleased with me. He blesses me because of who He is and not what I am. The righteous sometimes get caught up in His anger and judgement of others. I pray never face any of this as to disappoint Him. Even then, I'm a son. A dear son to Him. He sees me in the likeness of His Eternal offering for all of mankind. I'm complete in Him.

Everything I've gained I count but dung! Do you remember those words?

IF there was ever anyone that should be praised for his service it was Paul. Yet, he suffered greatly. Even to the point he told Timothy that all those Asia had become ashamed to stand with him. I'm sure, sitting in jail for several years and facing the ax. His desire found in Philippians 3:8 never changed.

"Either way, I think you're dead wrong on your view that outward appearance of gain is an indication of God's pleasure in you."

I appreciate your courteous letter, Praise, but I don't believe that outward success is proof of God's pleasure in a Christian. The Roadway Gang had big bus routes, and they were violent criminals. Decades later, some of them have renounced Christ.

BUT, if you submit to authority, it produces humility, which produces grace, which produces success in God's work.

Have you read in Revelations where Christ will return and set up Kingdom? Did you notice there will come a time in which the devil will be loosed and he will going throughout the world and draw a large army of followers to fight our Lord?

Don't you think these people are the same people that HAD submitted to authority? People that had gone along with the flow, for whatever reason...

I've told you from the beginning that motive is difficult to judge and that outward appearance of subjection to authority doesn't make a statement as to the grace of God in someone's life.

Paul said the foundation stands sure having ONE seal. God knows those that are His. You don't. I don't. Some people play along to get along or get whatever the desires of their heart.
Caution is always best when dealing with such things. Setting absolutes as youve set isn't wise.

I agree.  There are ample examples in the Bible of God blessing (and keeping alive - see Daniel for an epic example) people who refused to submit to authority.  Paul was a Fundy.

Right you are Rogue. Submission to authority produces humility, but there are other ways to get humility. And humility produces grace, but there are other ways to get grace. And grace produces success in God's work, but there are other ways to succeed in God's work.

The Roadway Gang...

YMBAH if you believe in some fairy tails.....

Now Folks, here's a fine example of you who judge do the same things. "...they would schedule a 90-120 minutes for Bible and class study and give you four for going to Hooters or what have you.... " Qwerty, January 3, 2015

The difference being that the Roadway Gang really had existed, been expelled, and was covered up.

Pretty bold statement from someone who is a blatant liar who has no trouble speaking untruths to support their own little agenda....
A couple years back, two, and only two, clergy in the US committed suicide. One shot himself as police surrounded his church building to arrest him for child porn. Another hanged himself in his jail cell after he was charged with raping a woman he had picked up at a bar. Both were HAC grads

So "The difference being that the Roadway Gang really had existed".... let me guess, they all killed themselves?

You have proven yourself to be a fraud and untrustworthy due to you repeated falsehoods.

Submission produces humility, which produces grace, which produces success in God's work.

God tells us that we are therefore to submit to one another, and twice He tells us that we are therefore to submit to God.

While teaching Christian school, I had learned the value of using "You who judge do the same things" to evaluate enraged parents. By listening to their accusations, I could understand their sins.

I have been lurking on the FFF for a little more than fourteen years now, and I have noticed a consistent problem. People would disobey God'¡s command not to judge, to speak evil of the brethren, and to scorn. Someone would object, and several of them would rally against him. The people objecting would usually make the same three mistakes:

1) Defend themselves
2) Point out that their attackers were not being used by God
3) Point out their attackers' lack of love.

And the people objecting ALWAYS lost. No exceptions. So they left. And the FFF steadily declined from one of the most successful Christian forums to the obscure site that it is today. God's people who tried to help other HAC grads would face so much hatred that the site lost most of its ability to help.

So, although submission to God covers every area, I'm going to concentrate on these three: disobedience to God's command not to judge, not to speak evil of the brethren, and not to scorn.

Someone thinks awfully highly of their own opinion...

It is apparent what kind of person you are Vince. You have no trouble telling a lie, then running behind the skirt of judgment.  You have no conscience about your own hypocrisy.

We have seen you in one form or another on the FFF. Usually this kind of ignorance is prevalent in the "young bucks" who are still wet behind the ears in their Christianity, not an older person who has been saved for years.

You have fooled no one here. The more you have diarrhea of the mouth, the more that is revealed about you.

Don't you get it? The very fact that you think you have to preach this to all the people on the forum tells us that you are guilty of all three!!!!
