Heard a sermon Sunday evening, at a Conference, that claimed verse 9 in ch. 1 was fellowship broken and restored, moment by moment, while ch.2:1 was positional.

Of course, he offered no proof from the text.

What say ye?

The entire discourse is similar to Galatians 4. Especially in verse 19.

Let's face it. The actions if some make us question their position in Christ. I see an apostle who is wanting to think all his followers are in Christ, yet realizing there are some that aren't. It's most logically a mixed message. It a challenge to the elect and call to those who have long refused the message.

OK, that is a perspective I can see.

Definitely, there is some contrast here, like Gal. 4.

It seems like a test to give yourself, kinda.

One thing I can't see, is the idea that verse 9 is insinuating that the child of God has any unforgiven sin.
