Mark 9:43-50
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
Matthew 18:7-11
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. 10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
I am sure that these two passages of Scriptures have been used many a times in preaching in a metaphorical and figurative sense, and I can see why they would be preached in that manner. Especially in the Dispensation which we operate in now.
But the truth of the matter is that both passages have also a Literal application. And their literal application is pointed Doctrinally to the Millennial Kingdom.
In the Millennial Kingdom in Jerusalem; there will be a literal gateway to Hell. And that very entrance to Hell will be in the Valley of Gehenna. And there will be some who are literally cast alive into Hell.
Which is one reason why Jesus said Fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell (Matthew 10:28).
And the only reference in the Scriptures where both the soul and body are said to be destroyed in Hell is in Matthew 10:28. Which is a passage Doctrinally pointed at the Millennial Kingdom where Christ Jesus the Lord is ruling and reigning from Jerusalem.
Also interesting to note is that the only direct reference to the possibility someone's whole body being cast into Hell is in Matthew 5:29-30, which again, is a passage which is Doctrinally pointed at the Millennial Kingdom.
And why is that? Well because in the Millennial Kingdom, Hell will literally be on the Earth in a particular place, and that particular place is in the Valley of Gehenna, which is a valley right below Jerusalem. And in this very valley, is where in the Old Testament, children were sacrificed to the pagan god Molech (Lev. 18:21; 20:2-5; 1 Kings 11:7; 2 Kings 23:10; Jeremiah 32:35).
So understand when you read that passage of Mark 9:43-48 where people are forewarned that it is better for them to cut off their hand, pluck out their eye, and cut off their foot, than to have their whole body be cast alive into Hell do have a LITERAL application. And while it is not for this Dispensation, it will be for the Millennial Kingdom. Because in the Millennial Kingdom, salvation will be purely by works (Matthew 5-7). No Faith will be needed since Jesus Christ will be physically on Earth ruling and reigning in Jerusalem.
And therefore, it willl be for someone to literally cut off his or her hand if it will keep them from stealing something and then having the possible consequence of offending again, and being cast alive into Hell in the Vallely of Gehenna. In the Messianic Kingdom where Christ is ruling and reigning, Matthew 5-7 will be the Constitution and Law of the Earth which people will abide by in that Dispensation and Economy.
People will abide by this Law in order to be and remain in right standing with God on the Earth in the Messianic Kingdom.
