I will preach against music that is worldly or sung "in the flesh."  Unfortunately, that is kind of like pornography.  I can't define it....I just know it when I see it.

It is cultural.

We had a sincere couple sing in rural Wisconsin IFB church. They were raised in West Virginia. Unfortunately, the IFB Wisconsinites could not appreciate the sincerity of their music.

You are exactly right.  I have actually struggled with this.
Being a "Tennessean," I find the Holy Ghost in loud singing with a "Southern" feel.  The music produced by HAC (where I attended) sounds dead and lifeless to me.  I also find modern Christian Music to be artificial and fleshly.

It was not until recently that I began to see that a Northern Christian finds Southern Gospel to be cartoonish and insincere.  The corny jokes, the off key shouting, and the overweight showmen turns them off.  What I find to be carnal, they receive by the Spirit.

Culture and taste does make a difference.

By the Way.....

Did anyone notice that the HAC tour group visited Gaither Studios and got to sing a song around the piano with Bill Gaither himself!

I wonder if they told Bro. Bill they don't approve his music in the dorms ;) ;) ;)

I wonder how IFB missionaries handle their crowds in central Africa?

In certain parts of Africa, you don't preach about women wearing pants.....you preach on women wearing shirts :)

I agree totally.
Culture and generation can make a huge difference in what each Christian receives by the Spirit.
That is not universally true....many Christians in the south feel exactly the same about Southern Gospel. I also found the music in Hammond to be ?lifeless?...great way to put it.
What type music is accepted by the Northern IFB believers?

Some northern IFBs have a southern influence.

I find that most of the IFBs used what Bob Jones recommends.

Gaither was too worldly. Steve Green was anathema.

Pretty much, they just stick with ?The Old Rugged Cross? and ?Amazing Grace.?
