Notre Dame, Wheaton, Belmont, Union. Covenant, Pointa Loma, Biola, Abilene, Calvin, Baylor...

Notre Dame and Baylor are the only ones mentioned that meet the criteria................................ that is if you consider them to be "distinctly christian".  Thanks. The good part is that none of the above are based on the fundy model, based on what I know. I am not very familiar with Belmont or Calvin, so not sure, but hard to imagine. Fundy just doesn't work for today's yewts.

Oh?

Why isn't TTU succeeding?

Did someone let a student teach the adult class without condescending to teach the brats first, or something?

Ok, I shall rephrase my comment.  This is just the first significant domino (with the possible exception of Pillsbury) to fall.  Regardless, it is just semantics. The difference with TTU is that it used to be a very big school that everyone in fundy-land recognized. I suspect BBC in Springfield or HAC to be the next on the chopping block.
To my knowledge, there is really only one distinctly Christian University that can compete with the guvmint schools in facilities, quality of education, sports programs, financial stability, etc.  I sincerely wish there were more, but don't see the leadership required to head up such an endeavor.  Maybe one day.  :)

Would that be Liberty?

Can you think of another one?  :)

True. I actually kinda of surprised they haven't decline since Sr went home to be with the Lord.

Some people would say that MUST mean something..... I'll just the let the Lord take care of all that in Eternity. :)

"Some people" say a lot of things.  The truth is the Sr. was smart enough to plan for his succession.  Jr and Jonathon are not in their positions solely due to their last name, (unlike many other places).  Both have law degrees and so far have proven themselves to be quality leaders. Sr. was a great leader and was probably the only one who could have laid the foundation for LU, but I believe it will continue to grow until they cap the campus enrollment at 18-20K as currently planned.

Bruinboy, you know some Christians on this forum will not be happy until LU fails and folds.

Very true, but unless there is a moral failure by one of the major leaders, it won't happen in anyone's lifetime here.

Not trying to start an argument or urination contest but............... "there is really only one distinctly Christian University that can compete with the guvmint schools in facilities, quality of education, sports programs, financial stability, etc"........................................... still haven't seen one listed. For the good of our country, I wish there were more.

Speaking of Liberty.

Well, if you remove sports programs, which may be money makers but really are no reflection of the academic quality of an institution, I'd say Wheaton, Cedarville, and Taylor are all stronger than Liberty. As far as I know all three have excellent facilities, are financially stable, and have well-credentialed faculty. All are regionally accredited, unlike TTU and many other Fundamentalist colleges..

Liberty is bigger than those institutions, but for overall quality of programs, I'd go with any of the three smaller schools. Wheaton has about 2900 students, Cedarville about 3200, and Taylor about 2200.

I work w/ a lot of people from the midwest. I hear and see so many good things about the schools in MI, IN, OH, IL, IA, and many others. Their education, educators, facilities, and other things are second to no other Christian Uni. In fact, some of the oldest sports rivalries are between Christian colleges (Hope vs. Calvin).

Right in my back yard. Big deal basketball games every year. They have played the game at Van Andle Arena (14000+ seats) and sold out. One hard ticket to get when the game is played on their home courts.

TTU's demise does mirror to some extent the decline of the IFB movement. It seems though that colleges in general may be facing challenges staying afloat and attracting students. I read about TTU's merger in an article about the closing of Sweet Briar College -- a pricy women's college apparently unable to attract enough students.

College education is going to go through some dramatic changes in the next few years. It has to, way too expensive for most people, especially when their healthcare cost as much as a mortgage payment.

My daughter and her husband have "house payment" level loans and no house or healthcare. Yeah, that "college education will make you more money" promise is full of hot air.
