I have preached over 55,000 sermons. I have preached 3 1/2 times a day for the past 20 years...............

Kinda like the lies Bob Gray Texas told about how many people he saved.  You would think these guys would learn, but then again, their audience wasn't/isn't very bright.

Right on that.

IFBs have always been a bit anti-intellectual.

Many don't see any need for a pastor to know Hebrew, Greek and Latin.

How can you be a professional in the ministry if you do not read the original languages?

How can you be a professional in ministry and claim you saved anyone? ;)

Jesus Saves.

I saw it once on a sign above the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago.

Actually, I just read a quote from a missions agency that said 85% of pastors in the world have almost no formal education. They were trying to train pastors but in many parts of the world there is no access to education and little money to pay for it if it was available.

No formal education ≠ Anti-intellectual

Speak for yourself, you are the one attending a church that is king of this.  With all your self proclaimed Doctors, that have graduated from a anti-intellectual college.

This happens on your side of the IFB never has been that way at the IB churches I have attended.

To be honest, I've never heard a single syllable of anything Hyles said or wrote that I deemed worthy of remembrance. As overrated personalities go, he and his ilk are right up there with the Jenner-Kardashian family.

Wow!! LOL!!

What an insult to the Jenner-Kardashian clan.  Tough crowd here.  :)

Yeah I don't even think Jack's fully exposed head minus the combover would have a chance of overloading the internet either.

This was one of the first and most ridiculous claims that Hyles made, to come up on the original FFF.

It doesn't really matter how many times he actually preached a sermon, or how he defines "sermon," or anything else: 50,000 is a ridiculously large number. It's one sermon a day, every day, for over 136 years; or, 3 a day for over 45. No Saturdays off, no Christmas break, no vacation.

As I recall, Jacky-boy's biggest sycophants just didn't have an answer for that one.

Another ridiculous claim - whether made by Hyles himself, or some other grand poobah at FBCH, I don't know - that they have one over 1 million souls in the Chicago area. This one really got the sycophants mad when we asked, "So where are the Christians?" and they couldn't answer. One million Christians would fill 10,000 churches of 100 people, or 100 churches of 10,000, or 23 churches the size of Joel Osteen's. (And of course that's in addition to all the Chicagoland Christians that Hyles and crowd don't take credit for!)

People believed the little lies making the big ones easier to swallow.
Schaap.......learned from him well.

On the former FFF when the  You Might Be a HACker thread was going strong I noticed that JS was bragging on the FBCH website bio that he was "one of America's foremost youth speaker & that he had already preached over 55,000 sermons." As soon as I posted it on the FFF it was deleted on the church web bio.  ::)

Did you attend HAC?

No. After high school, I went somewhere that would further my education.

Thanks!  That explains your previous post:

No doubt true. But in the context of the thread, sitting home watching Gilligan's Island reruns would further a person's education more than going to HAC.  ;D

As I've stated before...to some here, even a stopped clock owned by an IFB-Xer isn't even right twice per day.
Reading this forum, about the idiocy that occurred in many IFB ministries and especially Hammond, I am thankful that God, in His grace, spared me from such in my formative years.

Having said that:
"A pastor who shares his vision for his church often makes the mistake of sharing a vision of his own ministry rather than the church. A vision for your church is the for the people, not for yourself".  - Jack Hyles

Says the pastor who passed on his pulpit to his son-in-law. To be fair, I don't know that Hyles knew Jacky Jr. would turn out to be twice the son of hell that he was. But if the church is for the people and not for yourself, why take step 1 in creating a dynasty?

Hyles' quotation isn't particularly profound, but his hypocrisy is. This is part of the reason it's impossible to take the man seriously as an icon.
