Why would you be intimidated? Do you think we act like this? And don't you go out into the world and see how unbelievers behave? What do you expect of them?
 
There are movies that explore significant themes but require an R rating because the manner of the storytelling is only suitable for adults. Something like No Country for Old Men comes to mind with its themes of chance, predestination, and the escalation of evil in the world.

Then there are movies that gain an R rating because they're essentially exploitation films, which use those features that got them their rating to attract viewers.

Deadpool strikes me as more the latter, from what I've seen. I'll give it a pass and wait a few more weeks for Batman vs. Superman.

LOL - Like I said, it's little more than a cartoon with profanity and a few sex scenes, which I overlook just so I can see the fun.  I guess you wouldn't want to attend church with men who watch Bugs Bunny cartoons, either.  What with how they're constantly shooting each other and blowing each other up, and yes, even including some adult humor that you don't "get" when you're a kid.

Shindlers List, Saving Private Ryan, and a host of other war movies would fall into the same category.  But you are dead on the mark with your "exploitation" comment, and to drive that point home further, now that the Deadpool movie and its R rating have had unexpected and unprecedented success the superhero genre is going to up the ante and make the next Wolverine movie with the same over-the-top thematic edginess.
 
Any of you use Adobe CC.  I think it's interesting that the movie was cut entirely with Adobe CC.

I do. Premier Pro is excellent and so is Adobe After Effects used for CG stuff. I use both to make logo stings and movies for our church.

As an aside: drone footage of your church and community is really good to have!

By Tuesday I have to pump out 5 videos (3 of them green screen) for our missions conference.
 
I found the following quote when I looked up the "R" rating, "As reported on Box Office Mojo,  "Deadpool" has been rated R for ?strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.?

I have been a Christian for 44 years and 30 years ago I probably could /would have watched it then,  but today it would sicken me.  I don't see how someone that is indwelt with the Holy Spirit could sit and watch something like this.  Piper is correct in my opinion.    I regret some things I  watched but you can't go back and undo what has already been done.  I would say err on the side of caution.

I love Speed Grade CC as it is very fast and makes good footage look great.

FTR, 1) the only movies I go to now are the ones we take our kids to go see.
2) 2 of my 5 elders don't drink
3) me and the elders that do drink, don't drink at pubs; too $$$$ ;D

 
I really like one of the points made by the author of the OP.  Let those that advocate for the "Bugs Bunny with sex and f-bombs" mentality put their own daughters on the silver screen doing the horizontal boogie, then tell me it's all good.
