I have been Googling his name and ministry with mixed results.  It is hard to pin down his exact doctrinal beliefs but he seems to be orthodox as far as his beliefs concerning the person and work of Christ which according to 2 John 9 and 1 John 2:22-23 is the mark as to whether one is a true or false Christian.

He doesn't seem to be dogmatic in that things have to happen on certain dates but believes Christians should take heed to things that line up with Biblical events and history.

I know the sticking point is that many Christians differ on specific prophetic events such as pre-Trib, the Church vs Israel, etc.,  but one thing no one has ever shaken my faith in is that the modern day miracle of Israel is proof the Bible is God's word and one would have to be wilfully blind to prophecy to ignore it.

Do most people on this forum consider Jonathan Cahn to be a heretic or not?

As far as I'm concerned, he's just another prophecy "expert" with a bestselling book that everyone will read, but from which nothing will actually come to pass.

I "prophesy" that it's a pretty lucrative gig. ;)

I never heard of the guy before I saw that speech video, and I don't know anything about him.  It was still a great speech.

I have been in small, extremely small meetings without saying much more, with him on a few different occasions. I think he is a sincere believer in Christ. That being said, I think his first book, The Harbinger was pretty conspiratorial and sensational. A couple problems I have:

1. He chose certain tragic  American events to suggest a timeline towards endtimes.  Some were not so tragic as others that didn't quite fit in the timeline so they were omitted.

2. I see no specific claims in Scripture that the US is involved in prophecy. Maybe, maybe not.

3. Although the book was published by Charisma books it is more disconcerting to me how close World Nut Daily was involved in  marketing the book and making a (boring) movie about it.

4. He is willing to go on some loony Christian TV programming...Jim Bakker's apocalyptic flea market being one of them.

On the positive side

1. I think he was pretty surprised by the money he made and is pretty humble...at least when I met with him.

2. He married wayyyy over his head.  LOL

Please note : All my comments above are from my perspective that people love "end-times" stuff and it sells. I've see so  much the last 40 years I'm a confirmed skeptic on anyone's hypothesis.

Many of you know there is a big movement in Christianity, most notable the charismatics, that are into all things Jewish and whatever "signs" might lead to the rapture. Much of it borders on the outlandish but here's one that just really takes the cake.

It started with a calf (black and white) that was "announced" in PA on the first day of Shemita (Jewish New Year) that had a "7" on the forehead.

THEN this red one BORN on the first day of Shemita. It also has the "7" on it.  Jim Bakker say's, (not making this up), "This is epic. This is the most startling thing I've ever seen....look at that cow, doesn;t it look like it has a purpose in life"!

Lot's of people fall for this stuff. Believe it or not, Bakker sells a lot of his apocalyptic merchandise based on all of this. And he's not the only one profiting from this.

Then Bakker says, No cow has ever been born with a 7 like that and here we have one announced and one born on the same day!"

I would say that it's purpose in life is to fill a bunch of hamburger buns.

Thanks for the replies.  I watched the video Tomato posted and Cann did have a good message but I couldn't really find a lot about his doctrine.  I didn't realize he was associated with Jim Bakker.

Based on as little video as I could stand (I'm no fan of Bakker), it looks like lots of people have been on the Bakker show.  And on the 700 club, too.  Maybe they just want to reach that audience in addition to everyone else.

I was surprised to see how Bakker looks these days.  Made me feel really old.  Apparently he hasn't lost his taste for tasteless women.

Is there any other motive for writing books?

"IMHO", that used to be true. Now were in these days:

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."

Jim Bakker went from hawking canival rides in his failed PTL-World to now hawking over-priced stuff on his carvival sideshow called The Jim Bakker Show. Either way he's a clown.

I read Jonathan's first book - The Harbinger. Interesting book of fiction. It was entertaining, but can't say I believed any over it.

Indeed...Bakker has guests on his program as does the 700 Club. Personally I could be a guest on the 700 Club as they are fairly diverse and really do talk about real issues from different perspectives.  Bakker is mainly using the guest's theological perspective to sell his stuff and they theirs.  That's what an author's book tour is mainly about but I would pick my spots a little more carefully.
