I'm no fan of Mr Gomez, but I don't believe he was defending either slavery or racism.

It certainly wasn't "racist" by definition - implying that one race is automatically superior or inferior only because of being a member of that race.

The Bible doesn't endorse slavery - neither does it condemn it.  God didn't send Jesus to reform society's evils, but to save mankind.  So, the Bible deals with slavery because it existed.
