Which one equates to "smart"? Or is smart the intelligent use of knowledge?

Generally speaking: To be intelligent is to have a high mental capacity.  To be smart is to be able to demonstrate intelligence readily, e.g. to think quickly. Knowledge is simply familiarity with facts.  The three aren't really synonymous.

I just was thinking of two competing thoughts I have heard over the years. One is that because he was perfect, Adam was the most intelligent man who ever lived. The other is that because they lacked the knowledge that we have today, no one in the bible was as smart as we are today. I believe that those are both possibly true as they are actually different claims. Adam's intelligence would have been a measure of his mental capacity. At the same time he would not have "known" as much as we do today. Hence apples/oranges.
