Let's Get Back To Preaching by Lester Roloff

I used to raise the sides of my daughter's crib, Lester Roloff the bed.

I really can't see a judge confining  somebody in Old Rolly's gulag. If they did then there's a 1st Amendment issue. If I don't want to be a good fundamentalist and I don't want to listen to Old Rolly's rants then you can't make me. If you try then I'll haul your butt into federal court on a civil rights violation.

In spite of the fact that these people want you to believe that they're dealing with the dregs of humanity, they're really dealing with the dregs of fundamentalism. That's usually people that only want to be normal but are unfortunate enough to have somebody in charge of them that sees it otherwise.

Back when I was in college and teaching karate there was who sought me out and requested private lessons. She told me that she had heard my story and felt that I might understand what she had been through. She had been confined in Old Rolly's gulag also known as the Rebeka Home. She told me that she had been beaten on more than one occasion and also locked in a dark room for over 2 hrs at a time with Old Rolly's rants piped in for entertainment. She had wisely decided that nobody was ever going to put their hands on her again. She wasn't interested in belt ranks she wanted to know how to kill. After checking out her story with some contacts that I had I found that she was legit and for the next two school years I taught her to kill. I understood where she was coming from. My situation was nowhere as bad as hers but I swore an oath just before I turned 17 that I'd never take another beating and I've stuck with it.

Well, I'm listening to the so-called message.

Have to say I'm not very impressed.

How about the part where men who remember their fathers and mothers with flowers on their grave are (a) wasting money and (b) wasting time, and the parents should come down from haven and tan that man's hide.

I have to confess that as a family, my wife, kids, and I buy flowers once a year on my dad's birthday and put them on his grave.

So I guess we're just a bunch of time wasting idiots, according to this man's "preaching"

I paused it right after this tirade, and it's at 35:47, so I'm guessing somewhere around 34:00 or later.

Earlier, he prided himself on not having anything put aside to bury him, and not even having enough money to pay for one night in the hospital... I assume that he is against socialized medicine...

But I'll bet he woudn't have minded that someone pulled his remains out of his wrecked plane, before Hyles turned it into a shrine, right?

Another little "gem" from the message:

You've got to get them under conviction before you can get them converted.

This, to me, epitomizes the man-centered 1-2-3 repeat after me so-called "soul-winning" in many IFB churches:

It is not my job to convict people; my job is to be a witness to the truth. It is the Holy Spirit that convicts people.

Likewise, I don't convert people; I don't want "my converts"; people converted to me won't last, and I'm not worth being converted to.  There are people who have trusted Christ after I have spoken with them, but I didn't convert them (God regenerated them), and they are not "my" converts.

Toward the end, he mocks prayer by saying that he wasn't interested in people who would just pray for him -- he wanted people who would DO something as well as pray.

I understand that sometimes people who SHOULD take action refuse to and say that they will pray only, and this is frustrating.

But there are some people who can only pray, and such prayers should not be despised.
