No the goal is to be more like Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark. You know, countries that spend more on education than the military. That is who we want to be like.
Now if we could just find someone to pay for our defense, we could afford to spend more on education like they do. 8)

Who states that Cuba is a utopia? I am Democrat and hang with Democrats who all think we live in the greatest in the world. We hate communist and love the USA. We know our country has flaws but we sure don't think our government is somehow in a conspiracy with the media.
You illustrate that liberals democrats, like conservatives, are not totally monolithic. Which should be understood....
However, MANY (especially leaders) socialist liberal democrats DO have a fascination and misplaced love affair with Cuba...and Castro.

An article by a conservative on what people said when Castro died does not validate your statement. While in this case I agree more with Trump than Obama what Obama said was presidential. (Everyone sounds better at their funeral than in real life). Thomas mentioned a couple of celebrities going and commenting on healthcare. Not even Thomas claimed it was a utopia.
Those same people lauded him when he was alive, as well. Even Hillary used Uncle Bernies praise of Cuba against him in the primary. Many liberals do have an odd fascination and a sympathy for Castro, Cuba and Communism.
And as to claiming it as utopia:
Hyperbole Definition. Hyperbole, derived from a Greek word meaning ?over-casting? is a figure of speech, which involves an exaggeration of ideas for the sake of emphasis. It is a device that we employ in our day-to-day speech.
In your case hyperbole is stating things that are not true to make them appear as if they were. Most of us call it lying to make something fit your agenda.
I once participated in a public speaking course in a local Community College. We were warned that using hyperbole and exaggeration was a mild risk. We were told that they were often missed by those who lacked the intellect to catch it or a sense of humor to appreciate it. I'll assume you fit into the last category!
Utopia - an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect.

The point of hyperbole is to make a point that is true not to make something up.
Here is two quotes from Obama on Cuba:
1. They certainly have not been aggressive enough when it comes to liberating political prisoners and giving people the opportunity to speak their minds.
2. Cuban authorities continue to respond to the aspirations of the Cuban people with a clinched fist.
Hillary quote on Cuba:
The Cuban people deserve to have their human rights respected and upheld, they deserve to be able to move towards democracy where they pick their own leaders. And I think both Castros have to be considered authoritarian and dictatorial because they are not freely chosen by the people that are in Cuba. I hope someday there will be leaders who are chosen by the Cuban people and I hope that democracy will be deeply rooted in Cuban soil and that the people of Cuba will have every opportunity to fulfill their own dreams in their own country.

I think Republicans need to be much more concern about Trump's infatuation (that is the real use of hyperbole) than what Democrats feel about Cuba. It appears Democrats are on target with Cuba but Trump not so much.
