Mike Holcomb from The Inspirations

Mike Holcomb, who was the base singer for The Inspirations for over 40 years, was our guest singer and speaker at our Church last week. Not sure how closely you follow Southern Gospel music, but he is able to reach an extreme full three octaves below Middle C (C4), one of the lowest voices in the world! Plus, he can PREACH!

Anyone ever have him at their Church before?
 
Great easy going guy. He was at Gospel Light Baptist in Hot Springs and did a nice job. It would be fun to sit down with him and listen to his SG stories.

Not to speak for him personally, but I really don't want to hear SG stories. Some just might make the "tunnel dwellers" blush!

While we are not close friends by any means, I've had the privilege of knowing Mike for over 30 years. First met him when I was a Junior at TBC and working at a Christian AM radio station (WROS) in 1981. I had a back stage pass since we were the main sponsor of the concert and got to hang around with, in my opinion, the all time greatest line up of the Inspirations Quartet (Martin Cook, Jack Laws [RIP], Eddie Deitz, Archie Watkins, Troy Burns, Roger Fortner, Dale Jones, Myron Cook and, of course, Mike Holcomb).

Over the years, I've heard Mike preach several times. We once vacationed up in Bryson City and visited the church where he was pastor. He can indeed preach!

Sorry to hear he retired from the Inspirations.

I was able to spend some time with him last year at the NQC.  Big Mike was burnt out with the quartet traveling life.  He had been at it for a long time.  He looked really tired and worn out.
 
Never heard of them.  Are they like DC Talk or Newsboys? 
 
We've seen them at local churches numerous times.  The Inspirations are my favorite gospel group.  It would be very hard to pick a favorite song, but if I had to, it would probably be Two Shoes.
 
Our pastor scheduled him for our Spring Revival next year! That is certain to be a blessing!

Does anyone know if he is IFB?

Mike is not IFB by the colloquial definition. Most of the Baptist churches up in that area of NC are of the Missionary variety and they are conservative in their philosophy of ministry and fundamental in their doctrine.

If you enjoy sound preaching and great southern gospel singing, you'll love him.
