Barbara Boxer just gave a speech about how the Keystone XL Pipeline will cause asthma, cancer, and global warming. And the media has been portraying this as an environmental issue, too.
There are only two (or at least two) problems with that:
1. We're already getting a ton of Canadian tar sands oil via rail. Stopping the pipeline won't stop the oil. It will just move it to a riskier transport.
2. Whatever oil we don't buy, Canada will sell to other countries, most likely China. And they'll burn it, and produce more pollution than we would. Which means stopping the pipeline has absolutely ZERO affect on pollution (or worse).
So what is this? Insanity, willful ignorance, just plain ignorance, or lying? Or all of the above?
