Church founder's daughter: There may be more Jack Schaap abuse victims

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=9041556

The daughter of the founder of First Baptist Church of Hammond, a northwestern Indiana megachurch, apologized for a former pastor's sexual relationship with an underage church girl he was counseling.

The Times of Munster reported Tuesday that Linda Murphrey issued statements last week and Monday for not speaking out about what she called abuses at First Baptist Church of Hammond.

Murphrey's brother-in-law, former Pastor Jack Schaap, was sentenced to 12 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

The 55-year-old Schaap said he had three sexual encounters with a parish girl, starting the week before she turned 17.

Murphrey says she wishes she could erase the girl's pain and she believes there are other victims. Her full open letter is posted on her website, lindamurphrey.com.

So, you're saying that she doesn't know what happened in the Hyles home?  And you know more?

Get a life.

I never said that ........all I'm saying is all of a sudden she is talking...........

just because I may disagree with you it doesn't give you the right to be ugly...

As the forum knows, SherryH is a lovely and reasonable lady. Being rude to her is uncalled for.

I think what Sherryh is saying is that Mrs. Murphrey has been estranged from FBC Hammond for so long, that she can't know what actually happened there under Jack Schaap.

wait - wait.  Linda thinks there may be more!?!  Gasp

Seriously, we all have a supposition there may be more.  His failed attempts at a married woman are very public.  How is this news?

By the way,  Bro. Hyles was not the founder of the First Baptist Church of Hammond.  Duh.  When your story begins with wild embellishments in effort to make your story a story, you destroy your credibility.

Her letter rings of hurt about growing up in the home of a wildly popular individual who asks his family to keep up the public show for sake of fame.  Many PK's know about performing in public for sake of the ministry.  Ministry can become an idol.  Interestingly, her open letter expertly entices the reader to discover what she is really talking about by purchasing her forthcoming book.  Becoming like her brother, making money off the name only in a different way?

Hey now, she has a book coming out about this, so she needs to make herself relevant.  When someone does not have anything to say, it is sometimes better to state the obvious.

Yup

WILD EMBELLISHMENTS?

I don't think so.  Jack Hyles built the church and school. It was not that big before he came. Many people probably see him as founder, since he is also founder of HAC.  Either that or it wa simply a mistake. It is not a wild embellishment.

Saying something like "Living a life of purity and integrity, Jack Hyles was the example Jack Schaap never followed" is a wild embellishment.

Next thing you know, she will be saying that her father owned all the buildings or something stupid like that.

Wrong.  Get McKinney's book about the history of the church.  FBC Hammond was THE downtown church long before JH showed up.

When you misrepresent information to make your point, your point has no point.

Exactly.  FBCH was the largest Baptist Church in Indiana, in the 1920's.  Pastor Purdy was as famous and sought after a speaker as Jack Hyles was.
Linda has learned to craftily manipulate others for her own benefit, from a great teacher.  I believe Jack Hyles thought he was serving God, and Linda may as well.
But either way, she is a chip offa the old block.  She knows that a majority of people's perception of any 'empire' will be one of resentment of those who 'have' by those who 'have not'.

Not too surprising, we have here a pervert coming out against one who would dare to speak out against another pervert.  pastor marty, The Real Novice, dr. hambone, etc. all who would have all smothered if dr. saaaap would have stopped too fast, instead of humbly admitting they were/are following a sexual predator, are attacking the messenger. Hard to make this stuff up. But then again, any one stupid enough to follow dr. jack the first, we should not be surprised to find out they have zero discernment or spiritual maturity.  Can't fix stupid.  :)
