However, due to the nature of some continuing "behind-the-scenes" threats/pranks, I have upped the superpowers of Ransom. This enables him to deal swiftly and promptly with troubled people.

1) Act like just as big an idiot as other forum members 
2) Ban who you don't like or agree with and be done with it. 

Besides, you ain't got nothing to worry about.  It's already apparent that you're his "special boy" and he'll bend over backwards to accommodate your proclivities, in spite of your "software" problems.

The amount of banning that actually "has" to be done is, in my experience, relatively light.

There are always people on the Net whose reason for being is to cause grief. When this forum was relatively new, we were attacked one afternoon by a porn spammer. FSSL was unavailable at the time. That was the one time that I really wished I had a ban hammer, because instead of just cutting off the problem at the source, I had to deal with each porn post individually (there were, by my estimation, about 300).

No one on this forum is deliberately trying to cause grief on that scale. My primary concern as a moderator is protecting the forum from net.abuse. As long as the serious griefers remain few and far between, running the forum stays fun.
