In his last act as president, Barack Obama, acting within his constitutionally-mandated authority, signed a document to commute the prison sentence of Jack Alan Schaap, a disgraced former mega-church pastor sentenced to twelve years in Federal Court for transporting a minor across a state line for the purpose of sexual acts. The commutation will reduce Schaap's sentence to time served. Schaap could be freed from his eastern Kentucky minimum security prison as early as Wednesday.
