We will finish our Spring Revival tonight (started Easter Sunday morning).  Wonderful meetings!  We have had 12 adults walk the aisle to be saved as well as many good decisions among God's people.  The evangelist I invited in has been in evangelism for 54 years.  Imagine that!  The preaching has been exceptional.  Some things I have noticed about this old-school evangelist/revivalist:

1.  He stressed from our earliest correspondences the importance of prayer.

2.  He has preached the tried and true doctrines of the faith.  There have been throughout the history of the church Biblical doctrines that have fueled revival as well as brought conviction to the lost.  The messages this week have centered on these themes:  getting a burden for the lost, backslidding, consecration, hell, judgment, the rapture, prophecy, and a great emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

3.  He has saturated his preaching with the scriptures.  God has given him an unusual gift in memorization.  On average, he probably quoted 50-75 verses per sermon.  Never underestimate the power of the Word of God!

I am looking forward to the closing message tonight.

If God isn't Sovereign in salvation, what difference does it make?

Yes.

Both bragging on God and praising Him.

Motive makes all the difference in the world. I know this is lost on a Calvinist, but Jesus was rather concerned about motive. If you understood this, then you'd have a entirely different opinion on John 6.

Yes.

Both bragging on God and praising Him.

On the forum, posting about something you or your ministry is doing is almost always thought be be bragging....by someone(s).
To me, proving that Falwell was right when he said those who can, do...those who can't criticize those who can...and do!  :)

Looks like you're agreeing with "Vince".

That all action for "God" is good?

Is that your argument?

No. And there is no way you could logically conclude that from my post.
God doesn't need action from anyone.
God doesn't honor or bless all action done on His behalf.

But not all reports of such constitute bragging.

I am praising God that His Word is being preached...souls are being brought into the Kingdom...and those who have been away from the Lord have returned.  God is so good! And His grace beyond measure!

Then just what does your quote of Jerry mean?

Good to hear about the blessings God is giving.

re #1: Someday, it may be worthwhile to discuss why people don't pray

re #3: I am impressed when a preacher quotes Scripture; less so when they yank it out of context to support a pet hobbyhorse; more so when there is no hint that they are just showing off.

re #2: I am a little puzzled by the themes you listed as "tried and true doctrines of the faith".  Backsliding doesn't really spring to mind.  Is "getting a burden for the lost" really a 'tried and true' doctrine?  It seems to have begun with John Rice, from my (limited) understanding.  It seems he was the beginning driving force to insist that all church members should be able to point to people that they had personally "led to the Lord".
I recently heard an evangelist berate us for not having a burden for the lost -- he claimed that Jesus carried a heavy burden.  It sounds good, but Jesus never said that; in  fact, He said that His burden was "light".

Then just what does your quote of Jerry mean?

The context in which he said that was referring to his constant critics. Those who he felt were simply sitting in the grandstands criticizing those on the playing field.
Dr Hyles expressesd a similar sentiment about those who criticized his constant witnessing/soul winning emphasis. He asked their personal witnessing strategy...they had none specifically. He replied "I like the way I do it better that the way you don't do it".

Now, I am not having a meeting, asking, praying and preaching toward a revival or Christian renewal emphasis...so I certainly can't or won't criticize Frag for so doing.  ;)

I'm praying that God sends revival and it spreads...

I never criticized anything. I asked a sincere question.

Do you have the same opinion of those who speak in tongues and claim revival?

Yeshua:

And my post was not in direct response to your post, but to Frags answer to your question....I didnt realize it was your question when I posted.

And, of course not...or was that ridiculous question rhetorical?

Not rhetorical.

So you treat "revival" differently for different peoples? Even those who name the name of Christ?

I'm just trying to determine the parameters you use to agree with some when they blessing God and disagree with others when are blessing God!!!
