We will finish our Spring Revival tonight (started Easter Sunday morning). Wonderful meetings! We have had 12 adults walk the aisle to be saved as well as many good decisions among God's people. The evangelist I invited in has been in evangelism for 54 years. Imagine that! The preaching has been exceptional. Some things I have noticed about this old-school evangelist/revivalist:
1. He stressed from our earliest correspondences the importance of prayer.
2. He has preached the tried and true doctrines of the faith. There have been throughout the history of the church Biblical doctrines that have fueled revival as well as brought conviction to the lost. The messages this week have centered on these themes: getting a burden for the lost, backslidding, consecration, hell, judgment, the rapture, prophecy, and a great emphasis on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
3. He has saturated his preaching with the scriptures. God has given him an unusual gift in memorization. On average, he probably quoted 50-75 verses per sermon. Never underestimate the power of the Word of God!
I am looking forward to the closing message tonight.
