Pedophila isn't a crime!?

Back in '14, in the middle of the fight for Indiana's Traditional Marriage Amendment, I submitted this letter to the editors of most major Indiana papers.  Many ran it.  You can imagine the response......

Letter to the Editor Submitted: June 28, 2014

Who’s Next in Line?

So you are open-minded to the idea of homosexual marriage?  Prepare to open your mind a bit more.

Before you pat yourself on the back for being more tolerant than your forefathers, more enlightened than your great-grandparents, and wiser than the Bible, you might want to consider the long line of endless perversions waiting in excited anticipation for the courts to decide if homosexual marriage will be legalized in Indiana. After all, if a person’s sexual perversion – or for the politically correct, sexual preference – cannot be discriminated against, then understand, there is a multitude of perversions waiting in line behind the smiling sodomite couples.  All of these “preferences” are going to eventually demand to be legalized, embraced and tolerated as normal.

LGBT stand for lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender.  What is a transgender?  A man wakes up one day and decides he is really a woman trapped in a man’s body.  He is more comfortable using the woman’s bathroom at your hometown restaurant or the girl’s dressing room at your local hometown swimming pool.  Who are you to discriminate?  Don’t worry, your nine year old daughter will be just fine showering beside him.  Remember, you are open-minded.

Bisexual?  A man wants to add a gay partner to his traditional marriage.  Who are we to deny him his rights?  A woman wants a wife and three husbands.  Sure, why not?  Maybe she was born that way.  Marry your sister?  Ok, I mean who are we to judge?  In love with your German Shepard?  Come on down to the County Clerk’s office and our open-minded, smiling politicians will help you and Fido fill out the paper work.

Open-minded Hoosiers might want to check out the newest group fighting for acceptance: minor-attracted adults!  Yep, pedophiles want their rights also.  Google MMAs and do your homework, Indiana.

Bottom line?  You cannot legally sanction one level of perversion and then deny the same rights to the next.  And there is a long, long line of “next”.

You have a straw man there. While there are pedophiles who want rights society will no more accept that than murder or rape because there are victims.  There is much in society to lament about but keep in mind that we actually handle sins such as spousal abuse and child abuse better than we did in the "good old day".

Of course the abuse of a child is and will remain a crime.  But seems to me that if the attraction was treated as a mental disorder BEFORE the pedophile acted on his impulses, it'd be a good thing.  Declaring the thought/desire itself to be a crime doesn't make it go away, it just guarantees the person will keep it hidden and try (or not) to control it themselves rather than seek help.

That sounds good in theory, but it has not worked, as a rule, in practice.
Outside of chemical castration, therapy has not proven to be a cure.

The two sins, Sodomy and Pedophila are similar in many ways...they are both perversion!  Both were once universally denounced by society and the church.

Sodomy is just way ahead of Pedophila in the evolutionary process.
Spdomy has already gone from a crime to a psychological disorder to acceptance...even by many in the 'church'. It took decades, but it happened.
IMO, pedophila is on the road.....
Different sins....or perversions but the same cultural evolutionary path.

And I certainly understand that is merely my opinion, but.....
I'm sorry to bring politics into this, but the "evolution" really is a modern liberalism issue.  As Evan Sayet puts it, it's a strategy to de-legitimize things that are good, right, and lead to success and promote things that are bad, wrong, and lead to failure.  In other words, call good evil, and call evil good.  The ultimate (misguided) goal is to make everything morally equivalent so that everything is considered equal, and there can be no disagreements between anyone.  It's a devilish thing, really.

Yep. Let's get back to the "good 'ole days' where we enslave people, rape them legally, steal land, lock women out of society and politics, burn those suspected of being a witch, etc.  :'(

Typical modern liberal retort.

You know, there's a difference between a liberal and a modern liberal.  I would consider myself liberal/libertarian.  I do not count myself among modern liberals, who are determined to make everything morally equivalent by bashing what is good, right and leads to success and promoting what is bad, wrong, and leads to failure.

Nope. Evil is cyclical, not "getting worse". Did Germany get worse after Hitler? Did Russia get worse after the Cold War? We just exchange one for another: away from killing witches to killing unborn babies today, for example. Systems work in cyclical fashion, not start off "godly" and then sour to rot into nonexistence.

The allowance of gay marriage is libertarian in that they should have the rights to marry. As a Christian, I believe that they should have the LEGAL right to do so because I don't believe we should discriminate against others because they might believe differently or be of a different ethnicity.

Whose to blame? THE FOUNDING FATHERS of this country who believe in "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and believed that "all men are created equal".

Bisexuals? That might be a legitimate observation. Transgendered? Total ignorance. Teenagers are not killing themselves because "one day they woke up and decided they didn't like their gender." Dude, these kids are being bullied, threatened and confused about what they feel which leads to depression and suicide. It is believed most of the suicides are because they don't know how to deal with these issues, both their feelings as well as their victimization by their church, parents, peers and bullies. It's a whole heck a lot more complicated than an overnight decision.

I didn't say anything about evil getting worse.  I described what modern liberals are trying to accomplish.

You need to do better than quoting a conservative comedian to make a point.  Is it Evan Sayet or you that gets to define success or failure? You will be hard pressed to find many "modern liberals" that want to make pedophilia a moral equivalent.

I wish you were right Long Gone... but pedophilia IS being seriously promoted by many today.

Victimization of children has been and continues to be redefined as "needs" for some time now. In 2008 a writer on sexuality suggests that parents may give permission for their children to be engaged in sex with adults.

Pedophilia is no longer being treated as a deviant evil. It is now a "disorder."

Our society continues to redefine language and eliminate definitions. Here we are... LGBTs modify language to allow for their deviancy.

Perhaps ;)

I have counseled a few and tried to get them into established programs... it never worked. They just avoid any kind of help. There are very few places these people can go for help.

The authorities cannot/will not do anything until they violate a child.

That folks seem to want to focus on the sins of others instead of looking in the mirror?

Handcuffing people into an equivocation-style / guilt ridden argument does not help answer the topic.

Pedophilia is a sin. It is also a deviancy with far more impact and destructive results on society than a person who over eats at the China Buffet.

It is a form of argumentation made popular by Saul Alinski to find moral equivocations to prevent discussion.

While we all have moments of slothfulness, greed and lust, I, for one, will not allow my temporary failures to guilt me into not speaking against the pedophile. They are evil, continually, and the bane of society. It is a very rare thing for a pedophile to change. They, and their advocates MUST be stopped.

Unfortunately, we have an element of IFBdom that has undermined society. Instead of properly dealing with pedophiles, they believe a change of location is how you deal with a pedophile. (eg Hyles, Phelps, [another I should mention])

You honestly think the extremely small number of practicing pedophiles has far more impact and destructive results than the systemic celebration of gluttony, greed, pride, and lust?

Sure, they should be stopped. Society agrees with you.

Now isn't the bigger problem in our churches the fact that these churches openly celebrate greed, lust, pride and gluttony along with the rest of society?

rsc2a said:

Then why do you not start threads on those topics?

If they are BIGGER problems because they are more common and widespread sins, then why argue the obvious?

This thread is all about PEDOPHILIA. It should stand on its own as a grievous sin without guilt distractions. No amount of pointing fingers at other sins will change the fact that we have a REAL problem that is lurking in most churches... sexual perverts who fantasize about victimizing children. There has been a pedophile in EVERY church I have attended and been a minister in. It IS a BIG problem.

First church: size about 700 people. A 17 year old molested a child he babysit
Second church: size about 150 people. A 23 year old, grew up in the church, was sent to prison for molesting children. He was released and tried to settle back in the church.
Third church: size about 80 people. A 20 something, grew up in the church, became very angry and confided in me that he was wanting to rape children.
Fourth church: size about 40 people. A 30 something, released from prison after 18 months. Shows repentance and is active in ministry (albeit limited).
Fifth church: size about 2000 people... we have our doubts about some and are watching

Every church I have been in, no matter what size, has had to deal with this issue from one degree to another.

So... if you think gluttony, greed, pride and lust are criminal activities which are a bigger problem than pedophilia, then start threads on those!

I can't seem to recall the red letters saying that overeaters were better off if someone weighted them down and dropped them into the ocean. Just sayin'.

I think you would rather a person in your house that was a over eater or a person that was a arrogant slob than a pedophile, no?

Which is beside the point. Just because someone is silent or inconsistent on some other topic, does not mean they're wrong about the topic under discussion. Frankly, the constant changes of subject away from sexual sins to other sins such as overeating are a) boring; and b) starting to look like deflections.
