🤣 So naive.

Do you believe Old Testament laws are binding legal code for Christians today?
No, why do you ask?

Do you believe that Romans 13:4 warns evil doers to be afraid of civil magistrates who is authorized to carry out the death penalty? Do you believe that Christian civilizations in times past observed this practice under warrant of Scripture? Do you believe these occasions (OT and New) were barbaric?

I have mixed thought about seeing it however would be shooters might get the message not to go shoot up a school or church if they saw this.
I don't know the verse but along this thought a murderer will be removed even from my alter. They will not be protected is my take on it.

No. Do you believe Old Testament laws are binding legal code for Christians today?

No, but neither does the New Testament repudiate the capital punishment in the Old.

In fact both Jesus and Paul acknowledge that the civil government's authority to bear the sword against evildoers comes from God (John 19:11; 13:4).

We can give mercy while still acknowledging that some criminals who receive clemency deserve death, and executing them would be just and right.

FWIW there is a school of thought that denies that the sword represents capital punishment. At the same time the folks who have that view will say that the passage requires the government to fulfill the "love others as yourself" command by feeding the poor. Yep, 180 degrees out of alignment with the interpretation you and I find in the passage.

I have no idea how many Americans will watch but I have no doubt that it will be a ratings smash in the Islamic world. That and we should plan on a new wave of terrorist attacks following the execution.

Radical Islamists have always had the goal of a holy war. It's seems that our leaders are now hell bent on giving it to them.

Lord Jesus come quickly.

I’ve probably read such things in the past, long ago, but don’t remember the particular argument. I’m going to assume that they refer back to Romans 12:17-20 for support? Hook me up with a link and I’ll be glad to read.

I don’t think that the radical Jihadists need much of an excuse.

“You breathe Allah’s air….allahu akbar”!

The example you used was from the OT. I was wondering if that has a biblical significance in your mind or a distinction between the OT and NT.

I understand, but it seems some people are conflating capital punishment and the public viewership of the execution.

I see it as two distinctly different things. The first one being fully justified and the second totally unnecessary.

The significance is that it sets moral precedence, and it hasn’t been nullified in the New Testament, but rather is given renewed authorization by the apostle Paul in regards to Civic responsibilities.

I think I probably mentioned this before on the forum, but a professor in an ethics course argued that the death penalty was not a deterrent to crime. I was persuaded of his sophistry for a while in my young adulthood. It seems to me that, though your language of it being unnecessary may be true, it is certainly legally justified, and it may serve to let potential bad actors know what they will face. It might serve as a deterrent, might not. But all of the online hand wringing about it being barbaric and only done in the tyrannical authoritarian regimes is simply bogus.

For the record I'm not hand wringing about it, nor do I think it's barbaric. Just unnecessary.

I believe that, and likewise for the record, my comments were only targeted at those I have witnessed doing it elsewhere. 😊

Are you referring to capital punishment or the public viewing of the execution? I think you’re confusing the two subjects.
